I’m told the Freshmen have priority. Do any sophs jr.s sr.s get to live on…or is it basically freshment only?

Second. Is it true that when combining meal plan with dorm rates…you’re basically over $11,000? sticker shock.

Mitch,
You are from a midwestern state. Here are some 2011-2012 room & board costs from universities around the country. I tried to compare using a double room & meal plan. Rural colleges are less expensive.

Fordham Univ.
12,980

UCLA
13,968

Washington Univ. at St. Louis
11,872

Univ. of Calif. at Berkeley
14,053

Georgetown Univ.
13,670 (Smaller number of meals provided)

NYU
13,670

Freshmen and sophomores do live on campus. Some sophomores choose to live in Greek chapter houses. Juniors & seniors can become RAs for room & board at no cost. Others live in off campus housing such as Tuscany and Gateway which are right across the street.

Hawkwings and other students can give you more current information about upperclassmen housing.

On campus is mainly for freshmen. The campus is pretty tiny so there isn’t much room for more than freshmen on campus. Sophomores are guaranteed housing, and most choose to live in the apartments north of campus. There are opportunities to stay in freshman housing, but it’s not guaranteed. Juniors and Seniors also live in housing north of campus, in both university owned and non-university owned housing.

Here are a few more. I was unable to find even one university that did not increase room and board fees for the 2011-2012 year.

Dartmouth
13,629

Vanderbilt
13,526

Rice
12,270

Not included are fees from the Forbes list of most expensive colleges such as Bard and Sarah Lawrence.

Most sophomores live in university housing off campus in such places as Cardinal Gardens, Century and others.
D stayed in Cardinal Gardens, across the street from campus. The apartments are mostly for 4 persons, …two bedrooms, one bath, living room and full kitchen…fully furnished. The complex is gated. The fact that no meal plan was necessary made the expense of housing less costly.

thanks everyone…most helpful!
