Can taking the ACT hurt?

D16 is currently prepping for the PSAT for National Merit. She is doing very well on timed practice tests and I expect that she’ll do well on the PSAT and increase her current SAT score.

Her school requires that juniors take the ACT in April. I don’t really want her to stress prep for the ACT if she already has exceptional scores on the SAT. Should I just tell her to not to worry about the ACT and do her best with no prep, ask the school that she be exempt from taking the ACT (it’s public school and I’m not sure they can compel her to take it) or is there some reason to have both high SAT and ACT scores? She is not looking at highly selective schools but will be looking for non-need based merit money if that makes any difference.

Ask the school if she can be exempt.
