Can the Police Really Do that?

Flossy, what are the call letters of the station which played the interview? Maybe we can find a recording.

My 21 y.o. son was really unhappy about having to go for jury duty twice already, but he noticed that he and the defendant where the only black folks.

Flossy, if the friend was not there, then anything they say is irrelevant. Dude, I learned that watching Judge Judy.

Flossy, the twitter account does not say Brown ran toward the officer. It said he was shot in the back, turned around, then was shot in the front.

Flossy, please provide a link to the Twitter account which says that Brown was running toward the cop. The one I’ve seen says no such thing.

This is why I’d like to hear the friend’s interview for myself or at least see a transcript. There seems to be a bit of a problem with mischaracterization.

I’m looking…

link, Flossy?

x-posted, sorry. I’ll wait. :)

None of the eyewitness accounts say anything about him running towards the officer. Also, it just makes NO sense he would do that. Why would someone with no weapon stop running from someone with one and run towards them?

This is interesting and also includes the relevant quote from the radio show. The Twitter is not as clear but it sure doesn’t say he was shot while surrendering, either. My point is not that I think this is what happened. It may be. But, my point is that this looks like where the official story is headed.

LasMa, just google it.

I just read it, and it all depends on who the he is. I didn’t listen, just read the transcript. I don’t find it as compelling because it’s not clear, and because it doesn’t contradict the substantive parts of others’ stories. For instance, it still says he was shot in the back before he turned around.

IJReview??? Seriously??

BTW, do you have a link to the twitter feed you referenced in #734?

Hayden, is right. The Twitter says he was shot while running. Twice in the back and then he turned around. What it doesn’t say is that he ever stopped running or that he surrendered and put his hands up. But, that is open to some interpretation. I found it a little odd, though.

The video is also up on YouTube. I gave you the link because it also included the quote from the friend on the radio show. And, you requested it.

I was sad to see (upon waking up around noon with quite a headache. Hehe) about the out-after-curfew arrests last night.

But I suppose it could have been worse.

Here’s an interesting article which goes into depth about the causes for the current racial tensions which lead to the shooting and subsequent protest and rioting:

<a href=“Ferguson unrest reflects decades of racial tension in St. Louis area”>http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-ferguson-racial-history-20140815-story.html</a></p>

Seems like it accords with many points I and a few others tried to bring up which were largely glossed over by others…including residents of nearby majority White communities who were dismissive of any discussions about racism/militaristic overreaction of Ferguson PD and the right of mostly Black Ferguson residents to be angry.

I just had a chilling and very telling experience. I said that I was headed to bed last night with the confidence that my kid would get home safely. Well guess what . . . he came in just now and told a little story with the preface, “Oh yeah Mom, a funny thing happened after you left . . .”

We were at a safe and sane non-alcoholic house/yard party hosted by a Mormon family featuring the amplified music of quite a few bands in an out building on an acre lot about a quarter mile from my house. It was a mix of parents and kids about 1/3 of them Mormon. My kid played 3 sets. I came home just after the last set started as he was going to hang out until the end then kick around with a couple friends before coming home.

“About 10 minutes before the last set me and ________ were sitting on the trampoline and a cop came up and said there had been a noise complaint and asked if we knew who was in charge and they shut the party down.”

So while I was here philosophizing about this and that he was casually sitting on a trampoline being interviewed by a police officer (who he reported as being casual and apologetic). He and his friend directed the officer to the homeowner and that was that. OMG!!! He didn’t think to mention this to me until now as an afterthought (he came in just after I headed to bed so wasn’t actually out late). We just had a little version of “the talk”. I shudder to think how this could have gone if he were a different boy.

And the KKK has decided to make their statement on the Ferguson PD shooting saga:

<a href=“KKK 'Raising Money' For Cop Who Shot Unarmed African-American Teen Michael Brown | HuffPost UK News”>http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/08/15/ku-klux-klan-michael-brown_n_5681227.html</a></p>

If I were the police officer, I’d turn down that dirty KKK money, and I hope he does. A “reward” for shooting this “Jewish controlled black thug”? I feel like I need a shower after even reading that article. In fact, are we sure the article is true? It seems so over-the-top, so vile, so disgusting.

The watchdog group SPLC was one of the sources for that report. Here’s one of the sources:

The website looks very sketchy and the quote is from an anonymous email.

But if you’ve been reading the comments on various news sites in the last week, you know that there are people who view this case in exactly the same way.
