Can this EFC be Right??

It’s amazing that some of these beliefs regarding race still exist. I can honestly say that when visiting schools I actually decided against Gettsyburg due to its lack of diversity. I also got turned off very quickly by the larger schools like Univ Alabama and univ of Illinois. To me the smaller liberal arts feel made sense for me. In the end I’ll pay more for the liberal arts education but that’s just me for others the big university may be a better fit.

Romani…

I wasn’t referring to kids who just visited. I was referring to kids who attend the school. My point was that if there were a bunch of OOS kids enrolling and then leaving because of “shock issues”…there would be some posts.

Of course students visit various schools and don’t get the “right vibe”. That happens. Not every school is a fit for every student. I wouldn’t expect such a visiting student to then post, “I didn’t like the vibe at this school.” lol. Most folks just move on to the next possible school. :)

As the above poster says, he prefers the intimacy of small colleges. I know a number of students who feel that way. They feel lost or uncomfortable in the larger settings. Totally understandable.

^D took Alabama off her list when we learned that the sororities were still segregated. She has no interest in joining a sorority, but couldn’t imagine being in such a place.

While the sororities are no longer segregated, your D would find that “essentially segregated” houses exist at many, many campuses across the US. When the backlash happened and a few here pointed fingers, it was easy to look up the pics of the houses (or clubs) where their children were attending schools and lo and behold…a whole bunch of white faces appeared. lol

That said, it was ridiculous that some Alums were the ones putting the kabosh on integrating the houses - where the STUDENTS - in such a place - wanted to integrate. Now the Alums have had their power stopped, and the houses are now integrated.

Scanning through this, the incidents seem to be distributed through the country.

I think its fine if someone wants to attend live in a place that is more comfortable, but there is always room for someone who wants to “be the change”.
