Can transcripts & principal recs be mailed together?

Tomorrow I’m bringing in all of my recs to be filled out, along with transcript release forms. Is it necessary to provide my principal with two envelopes for each school (one for transcripts and one for recs) or should I simply instruct the principal to mail them together? Thanks so much!

That’s what I did and I think it’s okay, I’m sure the schools would be fine with that.

I would go a step further – if it’s not too late – and have everything from your school go in one envelope. That includes the teacher recommendations. That way you’ll only need to hound one person – perhaps someone in the school office, like a guidance counselor who may be the central gatherer/mailing – and the teachers and principal know that someone besides a student knows if they’re dragging their feet.

Even better, if you can arrange for this, is to have a point person who will look at the complete package to be sure that the recommendations and such truly capture who you are. It may be too late to ask someone – the aforementioned guidance counselor or head of school – to work with the teachers to pull together a “school package” but that’s one possible approach to getting the recommendations done, particularly if you’re worried about what one particular teacher might write. If a peer is going to look at the recommendations before they get mailed, you wouldn’t worry as much about your recommendations, I bet.

Bottom line is that I believe most schools appreciate fewer envelopes to open.

We did that - forced the school to put everything in a single Fedex envelope (for tracking) that had not already been sent. Made it easier on the school that way.

Harder for components to get lost given the flood of application materials coming in.

We certainly asked to have everything submitted together - we supplied envelopes, forms, etc. for each school, and the school secretary and Principal/Dean of Students took care of the rest. My sons attended a relatively small public middle school (300+ students), where only a handful apply to private schools each year, and so it wasn’t asking too much from them.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I ended up having my English, Math and special talent (for lack of a better phrase) recommendations sent in one envelope and my transcript and principal recs in another.

Fabulous! Good luck!
