Can we talk about blue jeans

I am desperately looking for some new blue jeans to wear. I lost some weight so what I have no longer works well for me. I am reasonable proportioned for my height and weigh what the charts say a 5’2" person should weigh. (But I’ve given birth 4 times so you can imagine how my midsection looks. Sigh.)

So, being ‘of a certain age’ low rise jeans are not for me. However, I do like the ‘just below the waist’ style. And I remember reading that jeans that came to the waist were a passe style and were snidely referred to as “Mom jeans.”

So the other day I was at Macy’s in their petite dept and found many of their jeans did in fact come up to my waist. Did I miss something? Are jeans now back up at the waist? Are they no longer “Mom jeans”?

And then there’s the amount of flare. I thought that I"d only find skinny jeans. Instead I found very few that had a narrow leg and instead found plenty of straight leg (wider than the skinny jean look) and also plenty boot cut which almost look like flare jeans on my small frame.

Please inform me - what is the current jeans fashion.

I don’t know what is current in jeans fashion, but I also cannot wear most jeans.

I have Kim Kardashian/Beyonce curves going for me, which means that most jeans are too big at the waist or too small on my booty.

I really like “Not Your Daughter Jeans” brand. They have many different styles and don’t look like “Mom” jeans. Some of them are actually bedazzled and/or rhinestoned, if you into this kind of thing (I am not).

Ooh, no rhinestones for me. I don’t need any more attention drawn to my butt. lol

I’m not familiar with Not Your Daughter’s Jeans so I’ll go consult with Saint Google and see where they can be purchased. And see how much they cost. With kids in college, I’m definitely on a budget!

Bookreader:

I’m no expert in jeans, but you may want to look for mid-rise. There are some mid-rise that have slightly higher back waists.

I would suggest looking in many other places OTHER than Macy’s. If you spend just a bit more, you will find a much more decent pair that is comfortable and stylish. I used to shop at Macy’s but their stuff is a bit dowdy and very middle-of-the-road…

try: Not your Daughter’s Jeans found in better dept. stores…actually Macy’s probably carries them now. They are expensive, but very comfortable.

you can also try: Eddie Bauer (as someone on cc suggested to me and I bought a few pair) and J Jill…someone from J Jill can tell you what would look best on your frame.
Talbots, Nordstrom…

There are millions of jean styles, lengths and types of leg sizes and it’s best to go to a smaller store where a store clerk could help you decide.

Good luck! :)

There are a range of styles that are fashionable for jeans now. Higher waists are “back”, although lower cuts are still popular, too. Madewell (a JCrew owned store/web retailer) makes some nice styles and one is a higher rise skinny, which is great. Limited also makes really nice jeans that fit a variety of body types. Gap does, too, for less money.

Flare, straight leg and skinny are all “in” and with the right shoes/boots, can be dressy or casual.

Heheh - over on the dressing young thread they mentioned this company [J Brand Jeans - Men’s & Women’s Clothing, Designer Denim](http://www.jbrandjeans.com/) A bit pricey but any waist height you want and any leg style you want. I think skinnies are def. “in” now but also you can wear whatever floats your boat, too.

I’m your height and 115 pounds (give or take) but can’t wear petites - they are just not cut right for me. I prefer regular sizes and getting them hemmed or just letting them bunch a bit at the bottom. Also, and this is just my opinion, Macy’s carries clothes that are on the dowdy side compared to other department stores (Nordstroms, Saks, etc.) so more mom jeans there.

That being said there are more jeans being made that have a higher rise, but skinny is still very in.

I love the way J Brand fits me.

Also check out J Crew – I’m 5’4" and they make boot cut jeans in a short version (I wear 26S in them) and they fit great and don’t need to be hemmed.

I recently discovered the jeans at Chico’s. They are somewhat expensive, but are very flattering and comfortable. They have a short length that should work well for you.

Target store brand works for me. I’ve never loved jeans as much as these, I feel like they were custom made for me.

Yowza, I just did a quick search for Not Your Daughter’s Jeans and I saw prices of $100 and up. Definitely not anywhere near my budget.

So few places have petite clothing and I find that frustrating. I can hem pants (and have done so many times) but hemming jeans is a pain and I am happy to avoid it if at all possible. That’s why I was a Macys. I"ve tried on jeans on at Talbots but I’m not keen on them. I own a pair and by the end of the day, they feel stretched out (2% spandex) and baggy. I hate that feeling!

I just went to J Brand’s website and the pair I like is listed at $198. I sure I could find it for less but I’m gonna need to find one really amazing sale in order to afford that pair of jeans.

And why is the model wearing stilettos with her jeans? Made me chuckle.

I had the same problem with brands of department store jeans, but a young associate at one told me that her mom liked the jeans at New York and Company. I’m tall, but they had a nice range of lengths and the rise is definitely lower, although not too low for a mom :)

My daughter worked at Macys in the Impulse dept for a short time before college. They have similiar brands to Anthropologie.

[Impulse Brands for Women at Macy’s - Contemporary Clothing - Macy’s](http://www1.macys.com/shop/womens-clothing/impulse-womens-brands?id=55213)

( but too expensive for her to wear & save money for her gap year, so she found a better job)

I just bought some jag jeans that I like.
NYDJ dont fit me, at least they didnt last time I tried them on.
I like Lucky & calvin klein also.

Many kinds of jeans are in style, I think it is the washes that will date you.
Wear what fits and balances out your body type.

I have some jeans that were Ds from old navy that she outgrew that I like too.

I found some Liz Claiborne jeans that fit me really well at Penny’s of all places- under $30. I never used to shop there but now buy a lot of dress slacks there also-all under $30. Worthington makes them in some great subtle prints and textures. I have had several people ask me lately where I buy my dress slacks, as well as my jeans so they must not look too bad??? Penny’s carries many of the same styles in their petite section.

I think New York and Co. has lower quality stuff. I like the trendiness of the clothes, but I don’t think they hold up.

Good jeans are expensive. Gap or Limited will be less so.

I love BandelinoBlue Jeans. Very comfortable, and fit well. I bought two pair at Macy’s. I also had a pair of their black cord jeans bought at a consignment shop…I wore them so much they finally fell apart!

I have found NYDJ at consignment stores too. I have two pair I LOVE that were $5 each…tags still on them!

I love James Jeans - and they come in all different styles (high, mid, low waist, skinny, boot cut, etc.). They are pricey retail but frequently on sale on ruelala or gilt.

I can usually find Not Your Daughter’s Jeans at BJ’s, but unless you know what size to buy, it is a bit of a gamble. Maybe you could try on a pair in a regular store and then buy them at BJ’s, if you are a member.

All the female shoppers in my family also have good luck buying jeans at Target. I also have one pair that I found at Kohls that are the best-fitting skinny jeans I have ever owned. I shall be sad when I finally wear those out.

^I wear Lee’s from Kohls–straight leg, midrise. I don’t have the money or time to look around for brands or in dept stores. They do the job for me.
