Can working for an area studies collection at a library be research experience?

I work for an area studies collection at my college’s library. I do a lot of cataloging of books we acquire and searching for books we don’t have yet. We recently received a huge donation from a former professor. Cataloging all his books, pamphlets, and manuscripts has inspired me to begin to consider pursuing an area studies PhD. However, I have no research experience outside of what I do in the library. I’m having trouble finding a professor in need of a research assistant. Does my work with the collection count as legitimate research?

Anybody know?

No, it’s work experience. Researching using sources and writing your findings analysis for your senior thesis is reseach experience.
