Can You Afford Penn State?

I see that thread about summer session and…

I keep wondering: can everyone afford Penn State?

I’m sure everyone, including me, applied or plan to apply for financial aid.

However, nothing can guarantee that financial aid will cover everything.

Which leads to the title question: are some of you sure of being able to afford Penn State?

I will this you this:

I can’t afford Penn State, but I am going!

lil, where in ny are you from and what school are you goint to at psu?

I am from NYC [lower manhattan]. I am going to the college of engineering. What about you?

I am from manhattan and am going to college of sciece. What high school do you attend and why psu of all others(suny, nyu, etc)?

I attend HS For Environmental Studies. The only SUNY that offers my major [AERSPeng] is SUNY at Buffalo which I have applied. I chose PSU over all my other schools [Buffalo, Embry-Riddle, Vtech, UColorado, and Purdue] because it is simply ranked in the top 50. I know that Purdue is probably better than PSU in terms of engineering, but overall PSU is better. I guess PSU offers more opportunities and social life than all my other schools. I also intend to elect the co-op option for my major at the end of my Sophomore year.

What HS do you attend, and have you visited PSU yet?

…

Hey. How do you go to PSU from manhattan? I signed up for an engineering visit session on February 13, and I don’t know how to get there. =[.

Go by car, or amtrak train. The thing is, if you take the amtrak train, you will still need a car since the closest stop to psu is about 20 miles from the campus. Alternativelly, you can go by bus with greyhound, but don’t know any of the lines or any details about schedules/route so you might want to check their website.

I won’t be able to afford it, but my parents will have to pay part of the tuition and then I hope to get about 10,000 in scholarship and then the rest is loans.

Will pay back my parents though. It’s worse when your out of state, like me. (From NJ)

It’s worse when your family income is less than 15k/yr and from out of state, like me.

What is a CSS profile, and does PSU require it?

I’m pretty sure PSU doesn’t consider/accept CSS profile.

If I’m not mistaken, the CSS Profile is a financial aid form used by private, not state, colleges and universities. I think that Penn State only uses the FAFSA form. But you really should check with PSU’s financial aid department to be sure.

What does the CSS profile do/consists of?

The CSS/Profile is a form on which you report any income, expenses and financial assets for both you and your parents. The CSS/Profile is administered by the College Board, the same company that administers the PSAT and SAT exams. Here’s a link to the College Board site that can explain it further: https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/index.jsp</a></p>
