can you apply to same uni twice - same major?

@T26E4 thanks for being helpful

well FK :frowning:  im gonna take a gap year then ? = D? xd

i mean NYU is one of my dreamschools , not priority one but, definetely one of my fave unis. well its so hard to decide .-. what to do

@Derpthulu: You either apply REA to Stanford or RD to Stanford. You cannot apply for both regardless of major. If you read the information I posted, you are either rejected from REA directly and cannot apply again within the same year, deferred to RD from REA or accepted. These are the only options. As other posters have stated, do not focus on just Stanford. With a less than 5% acceptance rate, it is a lottery school. Focus on schools where you have a good chance at an acceptance and consider Stanford your High Reach school.

@Gumbymom of course stanford wont be only school ill be applying to but definetely one of  i really have to be lucky to be admitted to stanford, of course there are usually 2 EQUALLY WORTH students, but one of them gets rejected :frowning:

@Gumbymom nyu early decision is so risky .-. didnt know i couldnt reject their offer and apply for other unis next year .-.

ED is a binding agreement. Only way to get out of the ED agreement is to contact admissions now and ask them to switch your ED application to RD or if they do not offer sufficient amount of financial aid to make the school affordable but you should confirm this by looking over the ED agreement.

@Gumbymom idk what to do now LOL. ill just apply for reg application maybe. or dont apply anywhere at all ;D

ill just apply to NYU and GEORGIATECH reg application. if it works i might welcome it, if not ill keep my stanford dreams alive = D

Also, NYU will look at all your assets, including your parents’ houses. Their aid is based in their assessment of your need. The $30K is meaninglessness. Also, they are well known for giving poor aid to domestic students, and their aid to internationals will not be better.

I’m concerned that your English skills may not be up to Stanford’s, or any other top 20 school’s, standards.

Even lower-ranked schools want a higher TOEFL score than what you have. BU, for example, is in the top 40, and wants students to have a 100+ on the internet-based TOEFL exam.

Your 87 on the TOEFL will not reflect well; the internet based toefl and the paper based toefl are not the same level of difficulty, and as another international student, I can tell you that a lot of schools prefer the internet based test.

You MUST have at least a 100 on the INTERNET BASED TOEFL to be a competitive applicant for any single one of the top 20-40 universities. For NYU, you will need at least 100 as well.

Furthermore, as an international student who needs FA, your chances will be lower than domestic students or international students who do not need aid for most schools. NYU is not need blind, and if you need aid, you will need much higher than average stats, ECs, etc. If they have an international student with the same stats as you, and that other student does not need aid, they will accept the othet student.

Also, regarding the supermatch tool; the results may not match your ambitions, but reality is reality; based on your stats, those supermatch tool results are the schools you have a good chance of getting into. It’s good to apply to reach and dream schools, of course, but if you don’t apply to safeties, you may end up getting in nowhere. Especially as an international student needing aid, you must have some safeties that are way below your ambitions or range.

@koreanstudent i actually used barron’s toefl tests, its same as internet based test , only difference is that its paper based. ( it has eBLACK boxes just like ibt test for example, but you cant use it on paper)

im concerned about my score, but thats not my real score, i didnt know format of reading and listening section for example , i didnt even take the test seriously i thought it was way too easy, because i did well at my center.
