Stanford does not have ED. If rejected, you cannot apply under RD for that season.
However, looking at your stats, you should not think that Stanford (and likely most top 20 colleges) are anywhere in your range of possibility as an international applicant.
Stanford has Restrictive Early Action:
Restrictive Early Action Policy
Applicants agree not to apply to any other private college/university under an Early Action, Restrictive Early Action, Early Decision or Early Notification program.
Applicants may apply to other colleges and universities under their Regular Decision option.
And as stated above, you cannot apply for REA and RD. It is one or the other.
3 Possible Restrictive Early Action Admission Decisions:
Applicant is admitted and has until May 1 to respond to the admission offer.
Applicant is not offered admission and may not reapply for admission in the same year.
Applicant is deferred to Regular Decision and will receive a final decision by April 1.
@T26E4 why? looking at my stats, you cant make conclusions, you dont even know my background. Student who was really late for SAT,who has never attended english classes outside school, student who prepared for only 2MONTHS, student who made 170 POINT progress in 1 month (from 1150 to 1320). Outside scores i can improve my EC activities. I understand its harder to make it to stanford as international student , but you should be motivating students , instead of discouraging imo.
I believe you can attain a solid US college, if thatâs your goal. However, you should also focus your energy on where itâs likely to return results. I would strongly encourage you to apply to a school like Stanford as a final hope application â instead, use your energy and resources to find more viable alternatives. Try the SuperMatch function on the left panel of this page.
@T26E4 i tried it , but they dont meet my ambitions. i prefer losing 1 year and applying for top 20 unis rather than applying for âGREATâ universities.
i almost forgot to say, i am applying to NYU EARLY DECISION II thats it , if i dont get it , no problem , if i get in i will think about it = D
@Gumbymom what about SAME UNI , but different majors?
You should look at the statistics for admitted freshmen by googling the Common Data Sets for these top 20. And youâll see that you may well likely be wasting your time and effort. It might be better to spend 20 minutes digesting that data than to continue to chase a fantasy for a full year. There you have it. Keep warm and well fed.
Can you afford NYU? They donât meet financial need for international students. And generally you canât apply to the same university twice in the same year (there are a few exceptions, but for most, no). They will either reject you or defer you if you donât get into the early round. If you are rejected in the early round, that is the end for that year. If deferred, they will still consider you in the RD round.
@intparent i messaged NYU last week , if they had financial aid for international applicants, they responded that they did and average AID is 30K$. so 40k is left to pay, i am open to that.
@T26E4 i am very much informed about admissions = D
What is your need? Just because they average 30k in aid does not mean you will get that much. If you have no financial need, you wonât get any financial aid.
@Jpgranier i need financial need probs. i dont really get how this system works. Parents - by salaries they cant really afford it (70k$ 50k tuition,20k room - NYU PRICE WITHOUT AID) , but if we count houses and etc they can. so its pretty confusing!
@Jpgranier thanks for being so helpful btw⊠you responded to many of my posts.
BTW, i didnt get toefl score i wanted, because COMPUTER FORMAT confused me , lost time on some sections because i had no idea how digital toefl test worked, i was used to PAPER based tests. i got 87, however on paper based tests i easily surpassed 105.
will i be too late to send TOEFL score once again? ( january 14 is test date, scores will arive in 10 days probs!) and EARLY DECISION II decision is on 1 february
You canât apply to the same university twice in the same year, even if you are changing your major. Also, if youâre applying to NYU EDII, youâre committing to go- you canât âthink about it.â
@yonceonhismouth well i want to apply for stanford NEXT year, so nyu wont have any effect haha
You should read what EDII to NYU means then. You seem to not understand what âcommitmentâ or âbindingâ means. It does not mean you can gap year them if they accept you â and then apply to other schools.
If you defer enrolling, you may not apply to other schools or NYU withdraws their offer haha
Iâm a tad confused- you want to go to NYU then transfer to Stanford (which is even more difficult)? Or you want to do what post #15 says and do a gap year and then apply to Stanford (which isnât allowed)?
@T26E4 wait ,what if i reject admission? i still canât apply for other unis next year?
NYUâs ED2 is a binding commitment. You cannot reject NYUâs offer if you apply under ED2
no
my plan is - apply early decision NYU II, if they accept me ILL GO , if they dont ill take a gap year and eventually apply for other unis NEXT year.
I DONT WANT TO TRANSFER FROM NYU to STANFORD ,its difficult af.
