I got written up for alcohol consumption during the first few weeks of school…
Am I still able to become an RA next year?..

I know,it was a dumb mistake. I was at the wrong place at the wrong time…
Is that write up going to reflect on how others would hire me?
I never drink, and that was my first time drinking…

I feel that I learned my lesson…however I also feel that the people hiring RA’s would not care to hire me if I have an alcohol consumption write up…

At my school your record has to be clean. I would check with your school, but the answer might be no.

It depends on the school. I hire RAs, and for us, it would depend what the violation was. Usually we don’t hire people with disciplinary records beyond a simple noise complaint or something like that. For me, if you were a freshman when it happened and got written up in your first few weeks of school, the write-up was only for underage consumption and nothing crazier, and you never got written up again - and were otherwise an outstanding candidate who we really wanted to hire - then I would consider it.

If you were just a blah candidate then I probably wouldn’t hire you. Also, if the write-up was for more than just underage drinking - let’s say that you got belligerent with a public safety officer or were transported to the hospital for being so drunk or did something stupid while drunk - then we wouldn’t hire you.

It probably also depends on how competitive your school is - at a lot of universities, there are so many great applicants for the job that the hiring committee probably would overlook someone with an infraction.
