I don’t know a lot about the fraternity system apart from whats displayed in movies, media, and so on.

I’m going to be going to University next year, and was thinking that it would be cool to rent a house near campus, have a reasonable amount of people who are studying somewhat similar fields and are looking for accommodation join, and we split the rent all together.

I wouldn’t want to start something that is entirely focused on parties and stuff like that. Would people be uninterested in joining solely because of this?

Also, do people who normally start these groups buy the property they stay on, or rent it? I don’t think I would be able to offer reasonable monthly/semesterly fees if I purchased the property and we “split the mortgage”. I’ll go ahead and assume mortgages range far over $5,000 - $6,000 a month. What type of prices would people be looking to pay per month to join a house like this if there were 10-20 other people staying in it?

Just thoughts going through my head. I live about an hour and a half away from the university that I will be attending… still trying to see if its a smart idea or not.

PS: I’d be looking to recruit people studying medicine/related science fields.
