Can you drop AP courses after school started?

Let say you start with more AP courses. Can you switch some AP courses to Honors courses after school started at your school? If yes, when is the best time to switch? I am little worry that my s is planning to take more AP than he can handle.

At my school, it depends on scheduling and the course. They usually give us three weeks to feel out our schedule before you can’t switch into the easier class anymore until the end of the semester. Sometimes it’s not possible to switch to an Honors class, so sometimes a student just has to drop the course and take a free period.

If your son gets overwhelmed, I’m sure his guidance counselor will help him make his courseload more managable.

In our school district if you want to drop an AP you have to drop down to regular. Not honors. And even that is really difficult to do. However, our school is on 4x4 scheduling, thus overloading yourself with APs would be quite impossible for most of the CC crowd.

At our school, for sophomores, AP govt is the class that lots of people sign up for, but within a month, many drop out. They just go down to honors govt, and all is well. The best time to switch is as soon as your son realizes that he can’t handle it, and this is preferably towards the beginning of the year.
