Can you estimate your psat score state percentile?

If you know your psat state score percentiles for Math, CR and W, can you estimate your total score state percentile? For example, if you have state percentiles like Math (98), CR (97) and W(98), what would your total state percentile?

That’s probably a 98 or a 99… but doesn’t it tell you?

top right ;-)

btw i got 210 and my overall percentile is 98 (california)

The percentile given on the top right of the score sheet is the national percentile – not the state percentile.

<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools;

"Score reports include national percentiles, which allow you to compare your scores with other students in your grade level who have taken the PSAT/NMSQT. If you take the PSAT/NMSQT as a junior, you will receive junior percentiles. If you take the PSAT/NMSQT as a sophomore or younger student you will receive sophomore percentiles. "

Hi - I hope this helps -

If you register a user name and password at www.collegeboard.com, you can access quickstart (I think that’s what it is called), which has all your individual info, including state percentiles for each section. It doesn’t seem to include an overall state percentile, but you may be able to get a better idea of where you stand. There’s also a code # at the bottom right of your PSAT report which accesses “MyRoad”. You may want to give that a shot.

On his paper test results report (national), our DS got a 99th on CR, 98th on math and 95th on writing, but got a 99th overall. In NY he got 99th, 99th and 97th, which based on how the national overall ended up, we’re guessing would be a 99th in state as well, since his state percentiles are actually better than his national percentiles. But nobody’ll know for sure till next fall, I guess, when they announce the commended students and the semifinalists.

Good luck to you!

Thanks everyone!
Based on tubamomNY’s posting the overall percentile can be higher than the average of the individual percentiles (Math+CR+W/3).

I am trying to figure out the lowest PSAT score (on the 2008 PSAT) that still falls within the 99th percentile in Texas. I found some information showing that a 212 is 99 percentile nationally. Based on my child’s national and state percentiles, I figure Texas scores are at least one point lower than national scores.

Anyone out there have a score in the 98th or 99th percentile in Texas? I’m sure 212 is 99th percentile in Texas. What about 211? 210?

Why does all this matter?

token for National Merit scholarships I think.

Then you need to see fireflyscout’s thread with figures from last year:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/554901-psat-cutoff-scores-2008-national-merit-semifinalists-h-s-09-a.html</a>

The figures from each state can change up or down a few points year on year, but this will get you started.

Thanks. I have seen the National Merit cutoffs for Texas for the last 10 years, and based on that my child’s scores should qualify. But we’re trying to do some shoot-from-the-hip type statistics (-:

Knowing just how low a score still falls in the 99th percentile in a state might give some indication of what the cutoff may be this year. Then, if it looks likely that my child and our cousin will make National Merit semifinalist, we are going to take a summer trip to visit several colleges that offer great scholarships to NMFs, in the hopes that the kids will fall in love with one of those colleges, get a scholarship, and save us a bunch of money. That’s the method in my madness! If I posted this in the wrong place, though, I’m sorry.

This is just the right place to post.

Thanks- PSAT Georgia: 220

i got a 208 and am in the 98th percentile. my friend got a 211 and is also in the 98th. this is so ridiculous how high the texas cutoffs are. fingers crossed that it dropped significantly this year.
