Can you get in without having some sort of amazing hook?

<p>I have good grades, ECs, sports, volunteering, all hopefully good enough quality, the only thing is, I don’t have any major hook what so ever. Is it possible to get in without being the owner of your own company by age 15?</p>

<p>^ Exactly. At schools where “hooks” are referenced a lot, most of the students there did/do not, in fact, have hooks and obviously got in.</p>

<p>If you have good stats, and good ECs, just like a lot of people, how do they decide then? Also, I’m doing an independent lab project, in which I might end up getting recognized by a company, how helpful is this?</p>

<p>practice creative writing for your application essays because they are the only thing which can make you stand out in the applications if you haven’t cured cancer by now :P</p>

<p>I’ve already cured cancer, but I will release my “formula” ONLY if Stanford accepts me. If they don’t, then innocent lives will be lost, and it’s all Stanford’s fault!</p>

<p>curing HIV does not cure AIDS, it will stop people who have not converted over to AIDS, but for the people who have already made the transition, they are still doomed.</p>

<p>You don’t have to start a company…but you need to show some other impact or some way that you have really made a difference. Elaborate on your leadership /volunteering impact. And yes, stellar grades/AP/SAT scores. Varsity sports captain and winning the regional/conference helps. Basically ANY leadership commitment where you have made an impact.</p>
