Can you give me an example of a competitive highschool transcript, schedule, anything

I’m really lost and need some advice to help schedule my junior and senior year. I go to a correspondance high school, so I’m not offered a guidance counselor. I’m looking into attending private out-of state art schools in major cities (nyc, boston, chicago, etc). So I need that competitive edge academically, but I’m not sure what to take.

I’m thinking of Honors Economics junior year and AP Psych senior year? y/n?
Or should I take an AP World History senior year instead? Reccomend something for my last 2 years please!

What would you reccomend for Math senior year? Alg. I&II, and Geo. are already taken care of. What comes after that? Pre-Calc, Stat. ???

Please help me with any info! You could write down the classes you took throughout highschool or anything at all! I appreciate it. I’m totally lost.

For the type of schools you want, I would think that your art portfolio would be more important than whether you took AP classes, but for the best advice, you should contact the schools that interest you.

Here is D schedule for junior year:

 1. AP Euro

I try to have D follow the track, 4 years math, 4 years English, 4 years Social Science, 4 years Science, and 4 years of one language.

v.competitive schedules at my v. competitive prep

I think all of you people just read the title and started posting.

Only Northstarmom seemed to have got it right.

AP Art History has to be in there somewhere.

Agree with northstar AP art history is a given, also addition art classes if poss. AP english is always a plus.

It figures that AP Art History is the only AP not offered.

self-study
and work on your portfolio.

what classes do you already have? You can’t take AP Calc BC if you are just finishing geometry.

While AP courses are considered to be the most rigorous, there is not sense taking an AP class if you can’t do well in the class.

Do you have a mentor for you art? The art world is very competitive – you should have a mentor that can help you put together a portfolio and look at summer programs at top art schools (very competitive to get in) for additional instruction.

AP Art History and AP Studio Art would be good choices.

What correspondence school and why? if you are homeschooling, there are many excellent online options for AP classes.

Competitive courses I think depend on the high school you attend. This is my D’s AP schedule

Have taken
10th: AP Euro, AP Calc BC, AP Comp Sc AB, AP Chemistry (4)

For sure taking next year :
11th: AP Biology, AP US History, AP English language (3)
Will take
AP Physics C: if score > 4 on AP Calc BC. (2/1)
AP Physics B: otherwise
Debating taking in 11th or 12th
AP Statistics or Multivariate Calc (Post AP) /Differential Equation (Post AP) (1)

For sure
12th: AP English Literature, AP Pyschology or AP Microeconomics/ AP Macroeconomics (2)

She has AP Environmental Sciences on her radar but has not decided when.
She will also be taking 6 semester of post AP classes.

Requirement to take AP at my D’s school is to score B+ or above in Hons. prerequists or A- or above in Regular pre-requists.

School offer every AP.

Like Northstarmom said, focus on your portfolio. Really. If available, you can see the entering GPAs of the admitted students to your potential schools. My guess is that it’s not 3.8. The percentage of their entering freshmen in the top 10% of HS graduating class? Their median ACT/SAT? This will reveal to you how much academic criteria will factor into being admitted. My brother is an Illustration professor at an Art College and travels to recruiting events. They want to see portfolios and potential for growth. Oh, yeah, a HS diploma is good too.

Don’t focus too heavily on taking the hardest course schedule you can, gpa matters a lot more. I took 7 aps, the most out of any kid in my grade and as a result my gpa suffered slightly, while people who took 2 or 3 ap’s had higher class ranks and got into ivies.

I go to Keystone Nat. High School. They offer an array of AP courses but no AP Art History or even Studio Art. I’ve already done the research regarding art schools I’m looking to apply to. I’ve seen their average entering GPA and average ACT/SAT.

I’m taking a summer course this year and going to my top choice’s pre-college program next summer. I’m taking a few community art courses in my town and a portfolio class when the times comes. I’m going to try to attend Nat. Portfolio Day this year as well, just to gain some insight.

I just don’t want to be rejected from a school for ‘not trying hard enough’ in my academics. I’m trying to take some challenging courses so they see I’m brain-smart as well, and also I desperately need any scholarship money I can get my hands on.

I’m going to take some Honors core courses junior year, electives that deal with animation and marketing/advertising (my intended major for college is CommD).
Senior year I’ll indulge in 2-3 APs and more art courses. I hope that’s enough to suffice admissions academically. Thanks for the help!
