Can you go to a college if you can pay for it?

Can someone go any college if one can pay for it? Not through the application process for college and applying for financial aid, but just to attend a college if you have the money. Can people do this?

They have to admit you first, based on your GPA, test scores, etc.

No. Plenty of students are rejected from colleges they could easily afford to attend.

How about taking some classes at a college if you can pay them? Is that allowed?

“if you have the money”

The question is: how much money? If you’re willing to donate 1,000,000,000,000,000 $ to a college, my guess is that you’ll get in pretty much anywhere, but then would you be happy there? :)

Many colleges let you take classes as a non-degree student. You will need to check with the colleges you are interested in to see if they have a program to take classes without be a degree-seeking student. They normally have limits on how many classes you can take this way.

Do you mean as like a developmental admit for a top school? Sure, if you have 10-25 million to spare for a new building. Basically, no one with enough disposable income to pull this off would really need a degree from any particular school–they (or their family) have already made it.

Like Jccsmom said, many colleges allow this. However, as a HS student or collegian, you may find yourself paying a dear amount whereas you might be better served just taking the credits at your own college. There’s not much to be gained by saying you enrolled in a class or two at prestigious college X, IMHO.

Then can I hire private tutors to teach me those college courses at home?

Sure, buy the college a new library.
