“Should people take more responsibility for solving problems that affect their communities or the nation in general?”

In this modern era, it is extremely important to be self-reliant and independent of others. Society today encourages leadership and extraordinary qualities because the government itself cannot take on the full responsibility of the people.

Think back into 1900’s Russia. WWI was at play and Russia was being horribly massacred with its lack of technology and resources. The Russian government became a tangled mess with little hope, even for the Tsar himself. The people were starved and deprived of their basic human rights, with 80% of the population being a poor ex-serf. There was no order, no method of organization to lead Russian into modernizing its nation. Soon the people realized that the tsar was of little help and was, in fact, they who held the power. With this massive and simultaneous epiphany, they miraculously grouped together and overthrew the government. In place, they created a republic for the people. From Russia’s failed, thought ancient, government, it can be concluded that despite previous success, there is no way of ensuring the stability of a government.

Let’a take another example from history. South America, late 1700’s, was an assortment of colonies controlled by Europe. The vast majority of the inhabitants were metizos, aka mixed blood. With harsh treatment by the Spanish, metizos declared a war for independence. Metizos wanted more recognition, more fair treatment and obtain rights for laborers. Revolution sparked from every country in South America and within a few decades, Spanish influence was dissolved. However, throughout the fighting, creoles (elite pure Spanish descendants) led the battles. They never faced the problems metizos had, being rich and embedded with luxuries, and therefore never felt the need to fix them. When all was said and done, creoles placed themselves on top and metizos were, again, irgnored. Due to the people unable to take the situation into THEIR own hands, not in the false security of the government, treatment towards metizos are much worse compared to the creoles.

With these two prominent events in the world’s history, it is easy to observe the instability of a government. The government may be here to regulate processes and ensure justice, but local situation are best understood by the people. It is in their responsibility, and in their best interest, to resolve their own problems to create peace in this world.
