unpaid and approx 3 hrs/wk
I’m a runner and I have been helping a neighbor to get healthy in the summers. can I include this on college applications?
thanks!

Um… “volunteer personal trainer”? Not sure you can pull this off – depends on how you word the description.

not sure if it’s an EC, might make a good essay, though.

Sounds like a stretch to me. Even as an essay, unless you’re going into physical therapy or exercise science.

Don’t know of any PT schools that require an essay. I think this is straw grasping. Omit it.

all depends on the extent of what you did. If you were just a runner giving advice to a neighbor and perhaps exercising with them, then probably not. On the other hand a HS kid holding a job normally done by an adult is a good EC. So if you actually got certified as a trainer and then used that preparation to devise a program the same way someone employed as a professional trainer would, then yes.

If you have a lot of other ECs and volunteer work, exclude it. If you don’t, just put it in. Honestly, I feel like you including it in your app makes it look like you valued the activity a lot and truly cared about helping him/her, which definitely is a good thing!
