Can you pursue M.A.L.D. and then apply for Ph.D. in Chemistry?

I am going to be a freshman in college this fall, and I am thinking about double majoring in polisci and chem. Because I want to work for the government (but in the science area), I am thinking about getting a M.A.L.D. (Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy) before I get a Ph.D. in Chemistry. So here are some of my questions:

When you apply for Grad School in a Ph.D. program, do you need to have your M.A.?

Do you need to get your M.A. in sciences if you want to apply for a science Ph.D. program?

Can you still apply for Chemistry Ph.D. program even if you have M.A.L.D.?

Thank you!

1) It is sometimes helpful, but is not required.
2) Depends on the program, but getting the master’s degree is usually optional. I know plenty of people who got their science PhD’s without ever getting their master’s.
3) Yes, although you should probably explain why you got that MALD. The adcom is going to naturally question why you want to change careers so drastically.
