Can you really transfer to UCI after only one year at a community college?

Hi, everyone. I’m attending Saddleback Community College right now and I plan to transfer to either UCI, UCD, UCLA, or UCB as a civil engineering major. I’ve heard rumors that you can transfer to UCI after just one year at a community college, even without 60 units being completed. Is this true? If it is, then i would really start thinking about going to UCI because I can spend less time at a community college and actually have the true college experience. Please give me as much feedback as you can.

You still need to finish 60 units to transfer and go through the admissions procedure just like everyone else.

However you can take classes at UCI through cross enrollment
[Cross Enrollment at CSU and UC Campuses](http://www.ivc.edu/admissions/pages/crossenroll.aspx)

I don’t know how much of a difference a “true college experience” you would get if you went to saddleback vs. uci since they are so close.

So that means I really can’t transfer after just one year, without having sixty units? Oh well, two years won’t be too bad, hopefully. When I said I wanted to have the true college experience, I mean’t that I wanted to live on campus and stay in a dorm even when uci is so close.

It’s extremely difficult to transfer from a CC to a UC in a year. Why not just live in an apartment with some friends of yours that go to Irvine or Saddleback?

for engineering? hahahahaha

[Welcome to ASSIST](http://assist.org)

look some stuff up… engineering needs MATH. No way to complete it all in one year unless you’re VERY motivated, you could have done UCI’s summer session did calc 1(Math 2A) in 6 weeks and then calc 2(Math 2B) in 6 weeks(or had AP credit) and then taken linear algebra and calc 3 next year at CC, but you’d still need to have 30 college units completed as of about a week from now in order to apply. I mean it’s doable.

AP calc BC (8 units for calc 1 and calc 2)
AP gov/civics 3 units
AP Euro 6 units
AP World hist 3 units?
AP Psych 3 units
AP Bio 4 units
AP Chem 4 units

that’s 30 units right there. Even if you missed a bit, summer courses could have put you at 30.

No way, Jose. Not for engineering.
