My younger D has decided to be a vegetarian…don’t know if it will last but I’m trying to be supportive. She really likes the black bean burgers at Moo Yah. Is there a frozen premade black bean or veggie burger that tastes good?

Costco has a great black bean burger. Don;t know the brand because I threw out the carton. The best and easiest is the bean burger from Mark Bittman “How to Cook Everything Vegetarian”. I’m sure you could google the recipe. It has vegetarian and vegan options. Takes less than 5 minutes to whip up in the food processor and make 5 or 6 burgers that can be individually frozen. You can flavor them with any spices from Asian to Mexican.

Morningstar Farms has a fairly palatable black bean burger. I have a package of Boca Burgers that no one will eat - they are awful! Quorn makes “chicken” patties that are pretty good.

If you are close to a Whole Foods, their deli usually has good veggie burger options.

We like the Morning Star Farms Chipotle Black Bean Burgers. We get a box of 12 at Costco. However, they have a distinct flavor, and I sometimes want a burger that tastes more neutral. We keep some other brand on hand, too. (Sorry–I can’t remember what it is.)

We are not vegetarian, but I will sometimes buy Morningstar Farms or Boca products. However, these Light Life portabello mushroom “burgers” are outstanding. Plus, my local store has a package of four patties for $2.86. Can’t beat that! We have tried the backyard burger flavor too, but it is not as good as the portabello one. Haven’t tried the farmer’s market flavor yet.

Whole Foods will have several different ones. Amy’s usually has quality products. If it for a party I suggest you try a few.

This is what H buys, too. I also agree that while I like them a lot, sometimes I want something that is more burger-neutral tasting. I didn’t realize until the above post what my issue was! Thanks!

I think some of the boca burger favors are ok.

I love the MorningStar ones. For a more neutral/meaty tasting burger, Quorn has a new one that’s pretty decent. Gardein does the most realistic meat substitutes:

ETA: Trader Joe’s sells some Gardein repackaged, like their frozen chicken tenders. If you’re at a store, it might be worth picking some up – easy protein replacement for your daughter to have instead of meat that you’re cooking.

Really like Morningstar Farm’s black bean. Have never found anything Boca to be as palatable.

Not black beans, but there is frozen falafel also.

I also like the Costco Morningstar burgers. Another favorite, which doesn’t taste at all like a classic burger, is the Masala Burger at Trader Joe’s. They taste like good Indian food in burger form and are very low calorie.

There are many more veggie hot dogs than veggie burgers. My kids and I agree the Italian flavored ones, whether from TJ’s or Whole Foods, tend to taste better. A much richer taste is by a company called Field Roast, which is sold at WF.

The difference is that my kids and I prefer the veggie dogs but not the veggie burgers over the meat versions.

My family also likes the Morningstar black bean “burgers” for quickie meals on the go. I keep them in the freezer as a staple. We don’t really eat the Bocca burgers or other meat-like substitutes. The Morningstar has a distinctive taste that is different from “meat.”

You could also look in the kosher section for items marked as “pareve” or “parve,” which means there is neither milk nor meat products in them. Dr Praeger and Sabra brands have some interesting choices.

Two vegetarian daughters. We all love the Mark Bittman recipe, you can play around with spices, very easy and quick.

We all also like the Morningstar Farms black bean burgers. Trader Joe’s has a delicious veggie burger that isn’t black bean, but I recommend it. Can’t remember what it is exactly called, but something with Asian in the name.

My favorites are Original Gardenburger (with mushrooms, grains and cheese); Amy’s Quarter Pound Veggie Burgers (expensive and hefty; good for when you want a nice big burger); Morningstar Farms Black Bean from Costco (spicy; larger than at grocery stores); and TJ’s Masala Burgers, which are only “burgers” in that they’re shaped like patties, but I can’t imagine eating them on a bun – best eaten plan, IMO, and so-o-o delicious. I bet all the Amy’s burgers are good, but I usually buy other brands because they’re typically cheaper.

Honestly, I love boca! The all-American and flame-grilled versions are taste like delicious real meat. I cook them by pan-frying them in olive oil.

I don’t like the taste of red meat so have never eaten it except if it was socially unacceptable and unvoidable so the philosophy of eating something that “tastes” like meat seems odd, but I guess if you are a true vegan then that irony doesn’t exist.
