With 2 kids now in college and many moves in our future, I’m looking for a lightweight dolly that we could pack in the back of the car on longer trips to the colleges. Any of you have one that you could recommend?
All sorts of foldable options out there. I think I got one from Dicks sporting goods.
I got one from amazon last year for under $50 and it is the best thing ever because it folds completely flat, even the wheels, and the handle extends to a comfortable height. It has been a game-changer for me!
I got one at Costco.
@Bubblewrap666 sounds like just what I need! i will look over there to see if i can find something similar.
@Bubblewrap666 Any chance you could look through your order history and link? Thanks!
We used this one that’s only $28: https://www.harborfreight.com/150-lb-capacity-foldable-hand-truck-61867.html
It’s not going to haul large loads, but easily tackles two moving boxes/large plastic bins. I recommend getting an extra large bungee cord to use with it.
What do you guys think about this one? Really lightweight and recommended https://www.amazon.com/Happybuy-Platform-Truck-Capacity-Folding/dp/B01L8MBDZE @Bubblewrap666 does this look similar?
I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IFMSKAQ/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B01IFMSKAQ&pd_rd_wg=QgoQ5&pd_rd_r=P6SZ6552ATS0VXFJ3HZP&pd_rd_w=Plce2
It switches from flat to upright very easily and is lightweight. I use it to stock a concession stand, holds up very well.
we have this one https://www.amazon.com/Seville-Classics-Folding-Truck-Capacity/dp/B004JOAP9O/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1524660330&sr=1-1&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_browse-bin%3A2801977011 very handy
I have similar to these at work and we have used them through many moves. There are some varied sizes/prices on Amazon for similar ones:

MagnaCart from Costco. We moved a bunch of our own household stuff using one. The new model they have can go up the stairs!
At a lot of colleges, there are lots of kids helping move stuff into the dorms oove in day. They want to keep the cars moving, so there is an army of older students who will move stuff. Best moving tip I’ve seen is have everything packed into something — suitcase, moving box, Tupperware tub, etc so it is easy for someone to grab and move.
Bookmarking this for Happykid who is forever schlepping all kinds of stage gear in and out of my house between gigs. I’m all for anything that would help her get stuff into the basement instead just leaving it in the living room.
This is not a cart but these are the BEST totes ever for college kids:

We just borrowed one from our local library, then return it when done. It is perhaps 30 years old, and has undoubtedly been used by dozens of families over the years, but they use it for their book sales a few times a year. Worked out great for us.
I have a Magna cart from Costco similar to this. https://www.amazon.com/Magna-Cart-Ideal-Capacity-Folding/dp/B001HBH1BM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1524693528&sr=8-1&keywords=Magna+Cart+Ideal+150+lb+Capacity+Steel+Folding+Hand+Truck
Buy some bungee cords too.
This was the best $70 I spent:

It lives in my car, folds to about 3 inches. I use it regularly to bring cases of beverages, or multiple grocery bags, up to my condo in the elevator.
It has handled 4 banker boxes full of books at one time easily. Though it doesn’t do stairs, the flat bed supports boxes better than the traditional hand cart, IMO.
I bought this one from Amazon and am very happy with it: Magna Cart Flatform 300 lb Capacity Four Wheel Folding Platform

We bought this folding swiveling shopping cart (2 actually) that we have used over and over for the past 4 years duing all moves in and outl:
However, the school itself has huge rolling bins that students can sign out to make the process faster. We always tried to get one of those, but sometimes they were all signed out when we arrived. So it’s good to have your own.
