My book club has a lot of first time college student mom’s and we have been spending a lot of time discussing adjusting to college, adjusting to not having your oldest home, etc. I am soon to be in that boat too (D is class of 08). SO I am wondering if any CC parents can recommend a good book on the subject. I think it would be fun to read as a book club book and then discuss as it relates to what they are going through. Thanks!

I haven’t read it, but there’s a collection of essays, edited by Karen Stabiner, called “THE EMPTY NEST: 31 Parents Tell the Truth about Relationships, Love, and Freedom after the Kids Fly the Coop”

I Am Charlotte Simmons, if you can stomach it.

what about something like Poisonwood Bible

not about college, but about the different phases of women’s lives

I read The Empty Nest prior to my daughter leaving for her freshman year in college and found it to be a wonderful book. There were many points where I had to put the book down because I was crying too hard. I would definitely recommend this one.

I recently read a book written by a mother and daughter about going away to college. It’s called I’ll Miss You, Too: What will Change, What Will Not and How We’ll Stay Connected. It’s out in paperback, and it was great to read both the parent and student perpectives.

ugh- not “I am Charlotte Simmons.” This was one of those, I-can’t-believe-I-read-the-whole thing, books. Each character was a stereotype and I ended up hating the main character because she was so totally clueless.

This one sounds interesting: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/075730124X/ref=pd_cp_b_1/105-7001513-1225202?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_r=0419ZCXM71KP0EQ8R1KY&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=317711001&pf_rd_i=0156005913 Daughters and Mothers: Making It Work

Ill Miss You Too is a wonderful little book. Both my husband and I loved it. I could really relate to the stories and it was very helpful to me. I highly recommend it.
