Can you say WTF was I thinking?

So this was my UC essay that I submitted for #3. Very weird…Tried to be original but maybe it will hurt me. Fifty fifty gamble I would say.

Question: Is there anything you would like us to know about you or your academic record that you have not had the opportunity to describe elsewhere in the application?

Hope is what guides me, what molds me, what defines me, what creates me, what steers me. It is what invents me, what leads me, what pleases me, what cheers me, and what satisfies me. Do you have hope? Do you have hope that you too will be able to explore the dangerous jungles of South America, climb the piercing cold altitudes of the Andes, discover the mysterious corners of the ancient Aztecs, witness the beginning of the very creation of life, dive into the dark depths of the blue, and bat homeruns like Sammy Sosa? Do you have hope that you too will be able to surf the raging waters of the Pacific, sky dive at intense speeds of one hundred thirty miles per hour, plan and construct eye shattering skyscrapers, and taste the exotic foods of Cambodia? Do you have hope that you too will be able to hit tennis serves with unprecedented speed, see the vast whiteness of the Artic, travel the Great Plains in search of buffalo, fight and conquer lions, wolves and bears, and still have time for dinner? I don’t. I just hope that someday I will be able to afford my own school supplies.

<p>You didn’t answer the question. They didn’t ask you to ask them more questions. I like it; however I didn’t think it is relevant to the question at all.</p>

<p>I was trying to say that others have many hopes for the future, but these hopes are not even in my realm because they are not even close to what i can afford…financially disadvantaged…Maybe it didnt come out right…</p>

<p>Great essay, it is risky and depends on the person who will read and assess it, if I were the admissions officer who read it, I’d definitely put it aside as something unique and deserving of admission.</p>

<p>I definitely got the whole ambition too great but confined by financial circumstances thing but not that you were extremely financially disadvantaged, I guess that didn’t come out the way you wanted it but dunno, the adcoms will probably be smarter than me and understand it.</p>
