<p>I am currently taking a six week whole year geometry course in the summer right now, and I got a B+ for the first semester (A in tests though). Sadly, the school I am in a mostly Asian school where most of the people get straight A’s (though…most people didn’t get an A in the six week whole year geometry course). I want to go to University of Michigan, but I don’t know anymore. My parents say I have no hope since everyone else gets As. Can I still get a 4.0 even with a B, or no?</p>
<p>(I have singing, acting, writing, and other types musical and creative talent, so will that help too?)</p>
<p>Don’t worry, a B will not drop your admissions significantly. Just take a challenging course load with good grades, participate in extracurriculars that you are passionate about, ect. </p>
<p>There are many other aspects to admissions at a college, and I highly doubt a single B will make you get rejected…
By the way I understand the rigor of having the class so condensed in a small amount of time. I just took Alg.2 and trig at the same time in a 4 week period.

<p>To get admitted to the most selective schools, they want people who are academically adventurous and accomplished. That certainly means rewarding kids for taking risks and not just safely padding the transcripts with easy As.</p>
<p>If you happen to be rejected by any of these, it won’t be because of a single A. Your parents are FLAT WRONG. And U-M is certainly full of many people who were not 4.0 students.</p>
<p>I agree with what’s been said above. I understand your situation…I was verging on a B the entire semester and managed to pull it up with my final. However, if I did get a B it wouldn’t be the end of the world because I could get it back with an AP class or something. As for your comment about t singing/acting/writing, it’s great that you have talent- but what are you doing to express it? Drama club, screenwriting? Do something that looks good + that you enjoy.</p>
<p>sorry, OP, you’re college dreams are over. You should drop out and go work at Burger King. Don’t you feel any shame in even asking if you should even apply to college with a B?</p>
<p>One B will not hurt you, especially if your grades show and upward trend and your extracurricular are interesting and show what you are passionate about. I know tons of people who go to UofM and certainly not all of them are 4.0 students.</p>
<p>Want to make yourself feel better? Post on the U of M forum and ask what percent of students had 4.0s. In fact, you should do it just to brighten the day of all those U of M students who will love the idea that there are people out there who think you need a 4.0 to get into their school. You don’t need a 4.0 to get into HYPMS either, by the way.</p>
<p>One B is not going to hurt you–heck two B’s will not hurt you. As the other posters have said, take rigorous courses and be an angular student. By angular, I mean you should focus your ECs in ONE area you like, not ten random areas.</p>
