Can you study your hardest and still not reach your goal?

As in, you spend every spare second of your time studying and still don’t make the grade you hoped to?

Yeah it happens.people say that its probably because you didnt give it your best shot but you know that you did…

Yeah, I’ve always wondered how to explain that. I figure that, if I studied as much as I possibly could and still screwed up, it would either be because a) I studied the wrong stuff or put too much of an emphasis on unimportant stuff or b) the professor decided to put completely irrelevant or different material on the exam.

Sometimes, you just reach a limit and you cannot absorb any more information about the subject. It sucks especially if it’s something like a prerequisite for a major or if it might affect your gpa.

Spending every second of your spare time studying is not an effective study strategy, for the record. The human body and mind won’t put up with it for more than a day or two.

Studying hard is not the issue- it’s studying smart. I know people who simply memorize problem sets but never study the concepts behind them. Needless to say, they don’t do that well.

My dad always talks about how he didn’t actually learn how to study until after college when he was in his Master’s Program. He was a C/D student in basic classes in high school and his GPA in college was a 2.something. Once he got to his Master’s Degree in Poli Sci though, he really buckled down and figured out how to study and he ended up getting into Law School and doing well enough that he was able to pass the Bar the first time.

Some people really just don’t know how to study. They can study lots and work really hard, but if their study skills aren’t good, they just won’t do well. You also have to remember that learning styles actually do come into play. For most people flash cards are really great, for some people they won’t do a thing. Some people do really well in Lecture Classes, others really want a teacher who goes straight from the books.

Often the people who make the highest grades didn’t do so from studying the longest, they did so from studying the most efficiently in the way that they learn best.
