Can you use other college acceptance to lure in money from IU?

I’m torn between Indiana and Illinois. I live in Illinois so of course Illinois is much cheaper. However, if i do get into Illinois can I go to Indiana and say…“hey i got into ilinois give me more money”(not literally) does it work like this?

No…

I’ve never heard of that actually working. I’ll be interested in hearing if anyone else has.

wow to me that surprising…id figure they would do all they can do to get you to come…they get more money

IU08, while they would probably love having you as a student, they don’t need to play, “Let’s Make a Deal”, because there are a ton of other students they’re turning away. If you were in their shoes, wouldn’t you just say, “Next!”, too? In other words, they’re not scrambling to fill dorm rooms.

I know someone who got a really prestigious scholarship to U Tennessee and got into Vanderbilt with $0. She used that scholarship as leverage to get a full ride at Vandy.

It usually depends upon a lot of things:

(1) the student’s academic standing
(2) how much money you are being offered by the other school
(3) how much money is available at the school you are asking for more money
(4) do you have any special ability that is particularly in demand–like you are the top point guard in the country–or you already won a special musical award–or you are an Intel science award finalist
(5) Does the school have a particular scholarship that exactly fits you (for example, a scholarship for people born in Brown County in Indiana that want to go into journalism)

If the answer to all of these things is that you are just a fairly normal student–then AimHigh is correct that the answer will probably be “Next student, please”–but if the answer is that you have a specialty that qualifies for one of the above–and the school has the extra money to allocate–then you may be able to get a bit more money.

Good points, Cacruzer. 4) See Eric Gordon.

Did you folks know he played Michael Jordan’s son in Space Jam? That’s a little bit of trivia for you all.

I’m the white, Jewish Eric Gordon. Will IU take me now? :D

He didn’t play Michael Jordan’s son in Space Jam. That was a different Eric Gordon.

[Eric Gordon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Eric Gordon - Wikipedia)

I’ll have to do some digging on that. Wikipedia isn’t the best source of information, so I generally take whatever it says with a grain of salt, but thanks for the heads up.

Well, Eric Gordon is a Jr, the Eric Gordon who played in Space Jam is Eric Gordon II. Both MJ and EJ have denied it.

There are lots of scholarships that IU offers along with the inital scholarship in your admission package. IU STARS gives money as well as the Hutton Honors College. There are many more…fastweb.com…community scholarships. You have to work and search to get money.
