Canada vacation ideas?

Hi there…I’m appealing to the collective wisdom of CC in hopes of pinning down summer vacation plans. We’re thinking of heading north instead of south this year and exploring eastern Canada. Nova Scotia or Newfoundland or Prince Edward Island or New Brunswick or somewhere else. Early to mid August. Flexible on where we go, though would prefer to avoid a ton of driving. Hoping for combination of water (sitting by gorgeous beach or lake, preferably with swimmable (not freezing) waters), some adventure (hiking, kayaking, whale watches, etc.) and homespun/silly vacation fun (gooney golf, etc.). Would love to find a FABULOUS but unpretentious place (hotel, house, etc.) Any ideas?? Two teenagers. Two adults. Uncles may join us…

We had a very nice vacation one year. The first half of the trip was in Quebec City. The second half was at the Mount Saint Ann ski resort. Mountains, hiking, relaxing by the pool. The St. Ann Basilica is pretty amazing. There is a group of islands to explore and they had containers of fresh raspberries for $1 each!

PEI is amazing, warm waters, golf, very relaxing beautiful place to vacation. Have gone there for many many years (to family cabins right on the beach). Most difficult part is the drive! LONG! even from where we live in Northern NE!
Nova Scotia is quite lovely as well…lots of history and the Cabot Trail as well.

I’m over on the left coast- and don’t know anything about those parts of Canada- but really like B.C & Vancouver- English Bay & Stanley Park are gorgeous.

D2 & I took the train up from Seattle.
( we were looking at UBC- or should I say I was trying to get her to look- she was in a gritchy phase)

Thanks for replies so far.
Missypie, are the islands part of St. Anne’s?
Radannie, where (ie what city / town) in Nova Scotia or PEI would you recommend? Have been looking on cyberrentals and fearing I may be late to get something for this August.
EmeraldKitty, I’d LOVE to go to the west coast but my BIL has been there and we said we’d make this vacation a new destination for all.

My memory was rusty. There is one island -

St. Peters in PEI, Brudenell Golf Course, Southwestern part of the Island (water is warmest north of Boston, not like water you find in Maine! 70 in August). North Shore is fairly touristy however it is a small part of the island so it does not really taint its image. Are you planning on driving? You can take the new Confederation bridge over and return on a ferry boat from the SW side of the Island back to Nova Scotia and then head up to the Cabot Trail, and Louisbourg, Nova Scotia. One other gorgeous spot are the Magdeleine Islands,
