Canadain GK Looking To Go To US To Play Soccer

When do most of the Non-National women GK get signed to US schools. She’s a 2015, and we are just entering her sophomore year. She plays in the top league in Ontario.

Any thoughts to timing?

Hi NB, and welcome to CC. I can’t help you with your question, but what you might want to do first of all, is align your school year to that which applies in the US. Most Sophomores are 2016s, not 2015s. Once you are sure you are on the same page as the people who might be able to advise you, I feel certain that you will find their advice more meaningful.

However it goes, good luck with the recruiting:)

I have a 2015 son (field player not GK) so I don’t know how helpful I can be. On the boys side the best 2015s will get verbal commitments this year, with the rest committing in their last year of school. It is my understanding that girls commit earlier, and that a number of the better 2015 girls already have verbal commitments. Your daughter should start contacting coaches, posting video and sending coaches the link and generally try to be seen now.

If she is just entering her sophomore year, she will graduate from high school in 2016, not 2015, right? Or at least start college in the fall of 2016? That is what we go by in the U.S. And yes, Tyberius is correct. Most girls soccer players commit in their junior year. A few commit as sophomores. There are not many spots available (and usually slim to no money in the way of athletic scholarships) by senior year, but it is still possible. On my daughter’s youth team, most committed as juniors – with one committing as a sophomore, two in September of their junior year, my daughter in the early spring, others in late spring early summer, and one in the spring of senior year when her SAT scores weren’t good enough for her first choice and she had to switch. Almost noone ever goes on OV in women’s soccer – at least not D1 – except for to the school they’ve already verbally committed to… because almost everyone is already committed by then.
