Canadian Transfer

Hey guys!

New to this site. I’m in a Canadian University and I decided after a few months this semester (first semester) that I wanted to transfer for second semester. I’ve looked over a few other threads and a lot of folk say that for a second semester transfer, marks are based highly off HS marks. Is that common for the states? In Canada, for a second semester transfer, you have to have a minimum of 2.0 credits from another university or a completed diploma from a college. If you have less than 2.0 credits, you’re considered a part time student and you have to go by what ever admissions is for HS. Also, cumulative average is different for high school students, university students and college students. I did have 2.5 credits, but dropped to 2.0 so my first semester marks are considered for the transfer and I’ve got a different average to achieve as opposed to the HS admittance.

Colleges vary in what they consider a transfer vs. a fr applicant. For some schools, as soon as you take 1 college class post-HS, you will be considered a transfer applicant; for others, if you’ve completed over a year of college credits post-HS, you are considered a transfer. You need to go to the websites of the colleges you’re interested in to see what their definition of a transfer applicant is, there are no generalities.

Yes, if you are applying for a spring transfer your first year (or even a fall transfer of your second year), you will be evaluated mostly on your HS record and test scores. Think about the logistics, if you’re applying for a spring transfer and you just entered college the previous fall, how much of a college record are you going to have by the time the school makes spring transfer decisions? At most, they will have 1 semester of grades to look at.
