Cancelling an AP exam

I put on my UC application that I was planning on taking the AP Chemistry exam.

I have paid for this exam, but I don't feel prepared enough to get a 4 or a 5 on the exam.

If I were to skip or cancel the exam, will it hurt my admitted status?

Thanks!

Well, I'm not any sort of admissions expert, but I've always thought that part of what UC admissions people look at was the rigor of your course load, and not your AP scores themselves - after all, they make a decision well before your senior year AP scores come out.

And on the UCSB AP credit chart, it looks like you'd just need to pass the exam with a 3 to get the 8 units of credit that come with it. If you've already paid for it, I really don't see what you have to lose by taking the exam, especially with the chance of knocking out half a quarter's worth of units.

Edit: here's a thread about a somewhat similar situation with a freshman admit who is going to UC Davis - the last reply in the thread is from a UCD admissions counselor.
