Can't decide "indicated major"...

I think I might apply ED to Penn CAS, but can’t decide between fine arts, visual arts or economics. I’m interested in majoring in art or economics or maybe doing a double major in fine arts+economics. My transcript and ECs reflect my interest in art but I also have a strong math and science background.

Should I choose fine arts or economics as my indicated major? Is there any benefit of choosing one over the other? Thanks!

@sgreen123 There is really not any difference in indicating one major vs another. You could change majors within CAS any time you want when accepted to Penn.

@sgreen123 Penn really asks for intended major so that they can set you up with an pre-major advisor and peer advisor upon being admitted who will share your interests and be aware of the resources that are available at Penn for people with your intended field of study. It is not really something they consider during the application process.

This said there is a value in indicating a major on your application. As PennCAS2014 notes your advisor will be selected from that department. Having the “right” advisor can be a big help in the course selection process and in dealing with course related issues.

The perfect solution for you: mark "Undecided’

It’s completely viable and won’t affect your chances. All Penn wants to know is that your academically gifted and have innate hunger for knowledge and inquiry. Not that you have your next 20 years charted out…
