CAp clears GPA?

Someone from the cap program this year told me when you go back to UT Austin, you previous gpa gets cleared and you start with a blank slate (for gpa).

Is this true?!

that would suck, im putting down uc berkeley for the cap program and if my gpa doesnt count in my freshmen year its gonna feel like senior year again (as in grades dont matter too much, juts gotta keep with the bare minimum)

so your goin to Berkeley

i wouldnt think that it doesnt get cleaned

UC Berkeley is not an option for CAP

my bad i meant “i would think”

@midwest i said the same thing, i just figured he meant he was turning down CAP to go to Berkeley.

maybe he means that he is turning down Berkeley for the UT CAP program

Either way, his UT GPA will start with his first UT class; credits transfer, but grades don’t. I think that is true at every college.

he shoulda gone to berkeley

“he shoulda gone to berkeley”

haha

Yes, your grades will “reset” at Austin. You will still have your UTSA GPA but your UT GPA is different than that.

so when i apply for grad school there will be two gpas instead of just one UT gpa?

oh sorry i didnt know that it was true for all college transfers, for some reason i thought it was like high school where all your gpa from last high school transfers over.

You’ll have 3 GPAs! A cumulative GPA (includes transfer work), an institutional GPA, and a major GPA.

Bump. Wait, so for med school, which one will they look at? Cumulative will include the UTSA one right?

They will look at all grades from college, likely with more weight on UT.

I just e-mailed one of the counselors today, she told me that it blends in with your Austin GPA, since you’re taking classes equivalent as those at UT. Wow. That’s good news.

Wait, your CAP GPA or cumulative?

This is what she e-mailed me:

“Yes, your UT Austin GPA should be comprised of classes taken there. Your UTSA GPA will be part of your transfer GPA.”

What I get out of this: Medical schools will look at your overall GPA, which will be a blend of the CAP and your 3 year at UT-Austin.

(If you end up doing fairly well in UT-Austin, this CAP program might actually be better than completing a 4 year degree; if your GPA is a 4) But then again, at UT-Austin you get more opportunities for research/ECs during your freshman year. (But that’s just an assumption).
