CAP Program Help?

I’m a junior in High School, with good grades/ decent SAT/ great essay/ lots of volunteering/ sports… etc… However my rank is low, top 22, even though my unweighted GPA is about a 3.86…

I’m applying to Cornell, UT Austin and A&M. I’m pretty sure I’m getting into A&M, but I really don’t want to go to that school. So if I don’t have the enormous luck I’ll need to get into UT and Cornell, is the CAP program worth it over A&M? It just sounds a bit sketchy. I want to go to Med-school, so would it sound a bit weird that I did the CAP? I don’t want to put in my Med resume that I attended a low-ranked University for one year.

What do you think?

Your pretty dumb(“i got a pretty bad grade on my first attempt”) your SAT score was not bad at all, as long as you have decent stats you will get offered CAP if you dont get in. I doubt Med school will care that you did CAP, afterall its only for a year.(and you do have to take the MCAT, which will basically make or break your chances at MED school) As far as is CAP worth it over A&M? that really just depends on how bad you want to go to UT.

You have a decent shot at UT and A&M. The Top 8% rule should help you out. I am not sure about Cornell, buts its an IVY so you will have to put in work.

Thanks for the input, i really appreciate it,
but just to let you know for me a 1800 on the SAT is bad. I recently made a 2100 on the SAT which puts me at an average position for the UNI’s I’m trying to get into.
Just to let you know an 1800 means a 75% on the test. But that’s my point of view.
Thanks though.

1800 is not bad at all, maybe not good enough to get into Harvard.

i sense your an overachiever, maybe thats why your hard on yourself.

Well, the school that I got to, it is very hard to get into the top 10 percent if you hadn’t taken all honors freshman year. I didn’t so I was put at a disadvantage. I can guarantee you that all the people in my school’s top ten have at least a 2000+
There are 750 people in my grade btw.

Med. schools wont care that you CAP’d. They mainly care about your GPA and MCAT. I know two people personally who are now doctors (brothers) that did undergrad. at the University of Houston. UH is ranked lower than your worst choice, A & M.

Thanks a lot, could you chance me at UT and Cornell?

@supaumar a common misconception with people, they believe that if they go to a top ranked school it will get them in Med School. People seem to forget that the MCAT does alot of the talking lol.

@AirForcePilot get your SAT score up a bit and you should have a decent shot at Cornell
