Cape May?

Anyone familiar with lodging in Cape May (Garland?)? Particularly the Congress or the Star? Also, what the town would be like the second weekend in September. Thank you!

Hi Zoos! Would be happy to help! I haven’t stayed at any of the hotels, though, as before we bought nearby, we rented a house. But Congress Hall gets high marks from everyone I know. I don’t know the Star.

September might well be the BEST time of year to visit. The ocean is warm, the bulk of the crowds are gone, but everything is open and bustling still. The light is gorgeous. It would be my favorite month if I wasn’t going back to school then! :)

Edited to add (per H’s comment)–the Monarch butterflies pass through around then. Also–millions of migrating birds, if that’s something you might be interested in.

Oh thank you! I knew I could count on you Garland.

ya welcome! Feel free to ask anything further–it’s one of my favorite topics! :)

<<<— that’s me, swimming at the Cape May beach.

Haha you are so bad!!!

I grew up going to Cape May. My mother was Queen of the Baby Parade (the Queens were young teens- not babies) back in the day, which was apparently a huge deal. We used to have to dress up to go to the Boardwalk in the evening for the children’s dance. Segregated beaches in the 50s. Ahhh- so many memories.

I live north of Cape May, just outside of Ocean City…I grew up on Cape Cod , so really love Cape May because it reminds me more of home . I agree with Garland about Cape May in September. It is wonderful ! It’s not as quiet as one might think, but it is a relaxing atmosphere . I have no point of reference for lodging because I live here , but speaking as a tourist oriented business owner in Cape May County , I can say that we love that time of year . There are some great little restaurants there too ! Feel free to send me a pm if you have any specific questions about the area . Have a ball !

The Virginia Hotel is nice and it has a very good restaurant, the Ebbitt Room, on the premises. It’s not right on the beach, but it’s on a picturesque street within easy walking distance. Poor Richard’s Inn, a B&B in an Victorian-era house, is a fun place (not luxury but lots of character, on same street as the Virginia Hotel). Sept. is a great time to go down the shore. The water will be warm and the beach won’t be crowded.

If you like craft beers, the Cape May Brewery has a fun tasting room.

^^^Yes! And if you like wine, there are a few fantastic wineries. Cape May Winery is my favorite. Sitting on their upstairs deck with a glass or two is a charming way to spend an afternoon.
