Got our Capstone Confirmation Card in the mail today.

The card indicates that students should wear comfortable shoes and bring an umbrella.

No mention is made of the parent needing comfortable shoes.

As I had mentioned previously, if the parent tour involves riding a bus, my husband will be okay, but if there’s a lot of walking involved, I’ll have to switch out with him for the tour part.

Anyone previously attended a Capstone and can fill me in on what part the parent plays in the event, ie, sitting in on sessions and/or a walking tour?

The card did mention you should make your hotel reservations asap and listed possible hotels to stay in. If anyone hasn’t yet, I’d recommend you make your reservations now.

I don’t think there will be a lot of walking for parents, but wearing comfortable shoes is always a good idea. For parents, there will be a lot of sitting, but little walking, IMHO.

It depends on whether they give the parents the full campus tour or just the bus ride. If it’s the full tour, they’ll ride, walk thru the Rec Center, then ride more, then they’ll walk from Gorgas Library to around the Quad (including to the President’s Mansion) and then thru the Promenade and to the Ferg.

But, maybe on CSDay, they only do the ride.

I am thinking about visiting UA from California. Should I go on CSDay or should I wait till I find out whether I get the invitation for the Fellowship interview in Feb.? Only 10% of the applicants get the invitation, what should I do?

You probably won’t know in time to book a flight to CSDay. I think UFE invites go out after MLK birthday.

I’d probably wait to find out, and if I wasn’t invited to UFE, then I’d go President’s Day when high schools are closed, but UA is open (however, I’d book my tour now - in the morning preferably).

Thanks Mom. I’m also planning to apply for CBHP. So, I won’t be missing too much from the CSdays, if I go on President’s day? What else do I have to arrange to make it a beneficial visit, since its so costly to fly out there? I might have to be in OSU for an interview the Presidents day weekend.

I would arrange to meet with the Honors College. I would try to meet with them early on Monday, because they will be busy later in the afternoon when all the CBHP interviewees arrive (they begin coming around 3pm - I think).

I’d contact Jami Gates and ask if she can arrange something.

I’d also look into possibly sitting in some honors classes. Look over the list on the interesting classes thread and see if any look interesting to you.

Typically, the CBHP students arrive on Monday (President’s Day) at around 3pm. They get settled in their hotel room and then go to the welcome dinner/reception. Interviews are held on Tuesday. Those who have to fly home on Tuesday afternoon are given the first interviews.

I believe that UFE does a similar thing, but has the kids arrive on Thursday of that same week. However, if a student is invited to both CBH and UFE interview, they only have to come one time and are interviewed for both during those days.
