@lookingforward Ah the downfall of every guy, the older we get, the more expensive our toys get. Just can’t help it ya know.
@MrThatcher I wouldn’t go and finance it if you can’t afford it. A supercar is way too expensive. I can understand financing a car if you need it but a supercar is more of a want and less of a need. If you’re financially stable and you have enough money set aside for emergencies and retirement, then go ahead and use the extra money you have to buy it if you really want it. But if you’re young, it wouldn’t be a good idea to buy it. The insurance is already expensive for young people driving a regular car. Buying that would make your insurance go up by an insane amount. Plus, I don’t think most insurance companies will even want to insure that and if they do they’ll probably limit the amount of miles you can drive in it each year. Another thing is that the mpg of supercars is really low. The Bugatti Chiron has a 9 mpg in the city and 14 mpg in the highway. That would mean you’d have to refuel it a lot and they run on premium gas so it’s much more expensive. If you bought one, it would drain out your money but if you have tons of money laying around then go get one if you’d like.
The Mclaren costs what my house cost. No college student is getting approved for it.
Well I did see one time one of these students at this community college I went to driving a Lamborghini Aventador. Those things cost almost half a million.
@NJWrestlingmom, Of course, no college student would be approved for it… but let’s say I get help from my uncle who happens to have a quite good credit history (10+ years) and excellent credit scores (800+ across the board)… now, this might become my most irrational purchases if I can convince him though to cosign lol!
@MoonKnight That’s interesting, must have used all the tuition money on the Aventador! lol.
People earn excellent credit by NOT co-signing frivolous loans!
@MrThatcher It would actually be kind of funny if you got one at a young age not in a silly kind of way but more of a I can’t believe you did this kind of way. And I think that the kid’s parents either bought him an Aventador or he just took their car for the day.
@MoonKnight We have one at home. Never any issues so far but it’s only 5 months old and less than 3,000 miles. Not sure it’s worth the cost though there’s plenty of better cars at the same price.
On another note no kid without any kind of income is gonna get a loan for a 200k car. Cmon now. This thread just seems really silly at this point. College kids should focus on saving for the future and not trying to flex on people. Opening a Roth IRA is prob a good idea rather than getting a nicer car. Some of the wealthiest kids at school are the humblest. Wealth doesn’t matter really.
@10s4life I just responded to a comment that said they saw someone at CC with an Aventador. Anywho, it’s all in light-hearted nature.
Has anyone spotted any other supercars at their university or near it? Also for the kids whose parents bought them their car, do you like your parents’ choice? Would you have preferred a different one? If so, which one?
As for me, I was satisfied with my parents’ choice for my first car. The car they chose was really good in terms of safety which I liked. One of the best features was the lane departure feature so when I was just beginning to drive, it helped a lot for me judging the length of my car. Also, it was relatively new so it didn’t look that bad. Only when it was covered with bird poop. The birds around my area are insane. My car had poop the other day already right after I washed it.
That reminds me, does anyone else struggle with keeping their car clean because it gets dirt/poop/etc.? Do you get your car washed or do you wash it yourself?
I forgot to say yesterday but for the supercar question, I did see a McLaren 720s at UC Irvine when I went there for a campus tour.
First car they drove was my hand me down Honda Pilot, because it was already worn and a few more dents were not going to matter. Then they got my hand me down Honda CRV. S18 took that to college this year. He loves it. We are going to buy him a new car but he likes his 2012 CRV so much he wants to hang onto it for a bit more. When the time comes we are thinking of getting him a new Honda HR-V. D15 needed a car last summer for her job and she is far away from us so I got her a used 2016 Toyota Yaris from a rental fleet that had been certified. She should be able to drive that for quite a while.
Okay, is this poster for real, or is he just pulling the collective tails?
@Nrdsb4 No clue but I definitely wouldn’t give advice on that. That’s just messed up.
@Nrdsb4, Of course, I’m not serious. I would never actively endorse murder for financial gain. I was just making a joke since it was such a dark topic.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Closing thread. It’s gone off-topic, and I’m really not sure what there is left to say. Regardless, I am unwilling to devote time to monitoring it.
