Car insurance question....

Never been in an accident involving insurance so I’m not quite sure how this works…

Sisters car was part of a hit and run the other day when she was at work. Question she has is… Front left tire was completely slit through and will need to be replaced. Front right tire is unharmed but only has a less then 1/2 or so of it’s tread left. Will the insurance company pay to replace both tires since they are supposed to be kept even with each other? Or does this vary by company?

She actually wanted to replace both of them this summer anyway because her car is horrible in snow but she’s trying to figure out if they will pay that 2nd tire or not… she already has to pay her deductible since it was a hit and run.

It really depends on the coverage. There usually is a deductible that has to be met. It seems to me that the easiest thing for your sister to do is all her insurance company and ask.

insurance company is sending an appraiser over on tuesday so I guess they will tell her then… but they told her in the mean time if she wants to take her car and get a tire put on it so that she can drive it she can and that they will just tack that bill onto her claim. She doesn’t want to just get one tire though she wants to replace both of them at the same time. I told her to give them a call and clarify.

They usually will only cover actual damaged parts so your sis is likely out of luck on getting the other tire paid for by them but I suppose it’ll depend on the insurance company.

If she ends up getting a single new one she should put it on the back so the front tires will match each other. It’s shouldn’t cause much of a problem when on the back.

She also can talk with the shop that will replace the tires, and see if they can give her a decent price for the second one so that she can do it at the same time.
