Cardenes at CMU or Kopleman at Eastman?

<p>My D is a violinist deciding between studying with Andres Cardenes at Carnegie Mellon University or with Mikhail Kopelman at Eastman School of Music/University of Rochester. Does anyone have insights into either or both? </p>

<p>By the way, she is also pursuing the double degree program with a BM and a BA in humanities. Thank you!</p>

<p>I assume that the double degree program only applies to Eastman/Rochester and that it would be a BFA rather than a BM at CMU. Please let me know if that is not the case.</p>

<p>If she has any other acceptances that are no longer under consideration, we would like to include those as well.</p>

Yes, it is a CFA at CMU, and also a separate BA. My daughter was also accepted at Oberlin, Vanderbilt, NYU, and UT Austin. Thanks for all you do to keep things organized on CC! I have greatly appreciated reading your comments.</p>

<p>Has she had lessons with both? Does she feel a better connection to the teaching style of one over the other? She will be in the studio for 4 years and if she cannot communicate well with the professor it can be extremely hard. One of D’s friends at another school is going through a rough time because learning style and teaching style are not matching even though it is a well know professor. Have you also looked at where their respective students are now? </p>

<p>If all else is equal I will have to leave it to violinists or parents to evaluate whether one orchestral experience will be better than the other.</p>

<p>Yes - double degree at Oberlin. For Vanderbilt, NYU and UT Austin, I think the process is first to be accepted by the school of music, then one can apply for the second degree program.</p>

<p>CMU you can do a dual degree or their BHA program - which allows you to more or less double major in music and humanities.</p>
