Cards Against Humanity: Have you played?

I am thinking of getting Cards Against Hmanity for an adult party. The guests (5 couples) all know eachother well for > 10 years. But is it too inappropriate? I know the college kids love it, but I’d like to know more. Please tell all!

Played it with our college kids. It’s a hoot. Of course one must check all PC speech codes at the door. Wine helps. But you have to be sure your friends are willing to have all sacred cows poked and spoofed. If anyone has a tendency toward feeling micro-aggressed, victimized, culturally appropriated or has been known to need the comfort of a safe space, crayons and puppies when hearing things with which they disagree - stay away.

If you don’t want anything that raunchy get Apples to Apples. I’ve played with adults only and it’s fun

We’ve played multi-family, multi-generational games of CAH. Some cards we take out (not many, But a few). Kids are all in their 20s, and parents in 50s. We’ve had fun.

Great suggestion to remove a few cards. I googled it and it’s possible to preview the entire set because it’s free under a Creative Commons license. You can take the time to print the cards yourself (and cut them - ugh I don’t have time because I have to prepare the food!!)

It’s not about adults vs “kids,” it’s about who is in the group.

I love CAH and play with people of all ages… but there are people my age I won’t play with and people older than me that I won’t play with.

You all have to have the same sense of humor or tolerance for non-PC things. Otherwise, yup Apples to Apples.

I agree with @romanigypsyeyes.

We have played it for years with our D’s and with my parents. We have a lot of fun playing it!

If you want to make it really fun, there is a Donald version, too.

Funny, I’m going to have to get this one, particularly the Donald version…sounds like a blast. Of course, it might be more fun to play it with your PC friends, and watch the horror.

I played this once and really hated it. And I’m a pretty goodnatured person, but wasn’t ready to find all of it funny and all the questions about sex were not for me. I know it’s the cool game and all that, but Last Word or Apples are more my style.

Oh maybe I won’t get it, then. I’m all for being non-PC, hilarity and obnoxiousness, however, I’m a prude. So…maybe not.

Apples to Apples can get pretty funny IMO. Especially when playing with folks you know well and you know their hot buttons.

Thanks so much everyone! I think it will be OK with this group. I will likely remove a few that are over the edge. So glad I know I can print them if I get desperate. I went to 3 stores today and none had it. Supposedly Target carries it.

Hey, maybe that’s what I can do! Just look at all the cards and remove the ones that offend me, personally, or make me uncomfortable. Then I’ll like it!

Our Target had it last week.
I bought mine from Amazon.

Just bought the Donald version from Amazon.
Thanks for the post and the information!

I played Apples to Apples with extended family. Everyone found it great fun. I think it’s safer for a wide range of sensibilities, but have never tried Cards vs Humanity, which the younger generation seem to find amusing. They also like lots of different board games and even banangrams.

CAH can be hilarious with the right crowd. We’ve taken liberties to just discard a few cards “just because”. It’s not like anyone is actually playing to win.
A new favorite is “Code Names”. Easy to learn and pretty fast play time. Probably best for about 6 people but it’s really fun to just watch (and outsiders can butt in with comments too). We switch teams up continually (so we get about every combo of team) and laugh all night long. Part of the fun is discussing your reasoning in selection of cards so it’s pretty noisy at times! Also it’s clean and you don’t have to worry about offending anyone.
I think it’s more fun than Apples to Apples.

I’ve never seen it, but they actually fired some news anchorpeople here for playing it in the newsroom.
It doesn’t sound like my kind of game.
