I use the generic Retin and it’s $85 and lasts a little more than year.
Hmm . . are those prices with insurance? She said she could only Rx it for cosmetic purposes and therefore the cost would be way higher.
I’ll see how the compounding Rx does. Any improvement is great in my book.
My insurance will not pay for Retin A or the generic if you are over a certain age…I think 35. They know what you are doing it for…cosmetic. I pay the entire amount. Like I said, mine is the generic Tretinoin. I have no idea why she is quoting you such a high amount. Since you are paying 100% out of pocket, just get the prescription and call around to different pharmacies. You can just call them now and see what they charge with no insurance plan subsidizing it.
Mine is also the generic and also no insurance coverage. I don’t get a prescription. They “fill” it at the cosmetic branch of the dermatologist.
This product got a glowing review and a five-star recommendation from one of my acquaintances:

It is supposed to be a super moisturizer (I can believe that). Has anyone here tried it?
Just an update that I have been using the Retin A cream and I do notice an improvement in my skin. My pores do appear smaller and there are fewer clogs. I am happy!
Another question - what mascara do you use? I feel like I look sleepy with no mascara. I used to think they were all pretty similar and usually use drugstore brands. My D just came home with Smashbox brand mascara and I thought she had false eyelashes on (in a good way!). I’m not sure I want that much of a change but it made me realize that maybe my Cover Girl or Maybelline isn’t the only way to go.
I’ve tried several mascaras, and I always come back to Maybelline Lash Stiletto (drugstore brand). I get the waterproof version. I’ve tried other drug store and expensive ones. I think it depends on your eyelashes and the look you want to achieve. I’ve seen ads for some mascaras where I think it looks like a clumpy mess on the model, but that must be what some people want. For example, the ads for L’Oreal’s Miss Manga. Lash Stiletto lengthens your lashes but doesn’t make them too thick or clumpy.
I use Clinique Lash Doubling mascara more than any other.
Sephora has a sample kit with 10 or 15 different sample-sized mascaras so you can try a bunch of different brands and figure out the ones you like best. The sample sizes last so long and seem so fresh and hygienic that I actually prefer to buy the sample kit over a single full-sized tube.
ETA: Well, shucks – I just checked the website and it seems they are not offering it right now. But they’ve always had the mascara sampler kits available during the holiday season so I’m hoping they’ll return soon. A single kit lasts me the whole year. ( i just deleted the price because it may have been more).
I have used either oil of olay or Aveeno tinted moisturizer with 30 spf for years. My skin looks pretty good, but I noticed every summer that no matter what I had on my face that after a couple hours on the beach my skin would tingle/burn and my eyes would water. This would be on a rather warm day, but under the umbrella and no sweat running in my eyes. I did a little reading and decided that mineral sunscreens would be better. I think the chemical sunscreens put off …what word do I want…(gases?) when my skin warms up that irritate my eyes and face. The minerals are zinc oxide and titanium oxide. Truthfully, I haven’t been to the beach this yer, but no problems while bike riding etc. I feel better without the chemicals. I have been using either Laura Gellers BB cream (tinted) or bare minerals pressed powder. The Laura Geller cream stays put really well, even when doing zumba, whereas the Aveeno would run down my face. I have to work harder to get the BB cream off, so some days I just use the powder instead.
Both have spf in the 20 range which is fine for day to day. I went to ULTA because I felt like my bare minerals was too light for summer and he (yes, a guy!) suggested I just use the mineral bronzer along the outline/sides of my face and in my cheek hollows for scultping. It really does look better and is easy. I do have tiny container of bronzer, so it can make a small mess in my sink. The pressed powder doesn’t.
A little eyeliner under my eyes because I have minimal lower lashes and get it on right on my top ones. Mascara and a quick brush of blush and I’m done. The BB cream or powder pretty much cover any of my imperfections and unless I have BAD circles or pimples I do’nt need concealer. They both hide my little capillaries around my nose and cheeks from minor rosacea.
I’m going to look up some of the products mentioned here. I should use some kind of wrinkle cream…
I usually come back to Lancôme Definicils.
Has anyone used this over the counter Retinol cream? I saw this online at Vitamin world.

Do you recommend prescription strength given by a dermatologist or would use of an over the counter one be fine.
I have never used this product before but am in my upper 40’s and am thinking that maybe I need to start using this product to take better care of my skin. I simply wash with Cetaphil cleanser.
I am not a fan of the over the counter retinols. It is worth getting the prescription strength and not all that expensive, really, since you use a very small amount (pea sized).
