Care and grooming . . .

In an effort to not let myself get carried away with this topic on the Caitlyn Jenner thread I am starting a new one. I remember learning about BB cream from a friend. I was stuck in a product rut and was looking for something different. So do you have any good product tips? Want to expound on why you don’t care for certain things or the idea of certain things? Hair tips? opinions in general?

@MomofWildChild - tell me about Bare Minerals . . . what makes it special? I see people with the giant powder brush and Bare Minerals powder but I am kind of afraid of powder.

What does BB stand for again? (Except for CC’ers Bunsen Burner…)

And I have a question - for those of you who say you have a "5 minute " make up routine, can you be specific about what that entails???

Anyway to change the thread title? I thought this might be about pet care!!!

I’m not MomofWildChild, but I used Bare Minerals for several years. I loved it! – It was easy to put on, looked good, and I could buy it on Amazon. Unfortunately I developed an allergy to something in it and broke out in itchy little pimples all over my face. Now I’m back to using a liquid foundation, which IMO doesn’t look nearly as good and is a pain to apply.

I use IT CC cream. It’s got good coverage for a CC and 50 SPF. It evens out my skintone, including the rosacea, and doesn’t break me out.

My 5 minute routine:

  1. Moisturizer (Paula’s Choice with SPF)
  2. It CC cream
  3. Blush
  4. Lipstick

I have naturally dark eyelashes and wear glasses so I don’t normally put on mascara or eyeshadow.

@abasket, I thought it may be pet care too!!

How old was the product and the brushes? Did you sanitize the brushes periodically? Bacteria can grow in cosmetics and cause skin issues that people sometimes mistaken for allergies.

@BunsenBurner, I know for sure I never sanitized the brush. I did google it at the time and many people mentioned allergies, so I figured I was among them. Do you think I should try it again? I really preferred it.

I would try it on a small part of the face using a freshly opened product and a new brush and see what happens. If it is allergies, you will know for sure right away, because your body has already been sensitized.

Thanks. I will do that.

I don’t use makeup daily, but when I do, I like Chanel’s liquid foundations and Laura Mercier tinted face creams. Here is a makeup tip I learned from a pro: your fingertips are the best tool to apply liquid makeup. After you smear it evenly over the face, press your face with the palms of your hands and hold for 3-4 seconds. It will even out the color and get rid of any shine. Amazingly simple, and it works!

I also used Bare Minerals for quite a while. I stopped because it’s actually easier for me to apply a moisturizer and liquid cream base…and blush. I’ve tried all kinds of make ups…and really, none is the perfect solution.

I got tired of wiping up the Bare Minerals that ended up all over my counter. I use Lancôme BB cream or Bienfait SPF 30 cream, eye cream, concealer, plus Dual Finish powder foundation. If I don’t put on some type of foundation, my face is swimming in oil by 10 am regardless of whether I use moisturizer or not. On special occasions, I use La Base primer then Renergie liquid foundation applied with a foundation brush, which makes a big difference. Then Dual Finish over that.

I used Bare Minerals for a short period of time. I didn’t care for the finish it gave my skin. Now, I use the foundations as an eyeshadow base, highlighter, and bronzer.

My 5 minute makeup routing entails:
– moisturizer + full-coverage liquid foundation
It’s in a 2:1 ratio so it gives the look of a tinted moisturizer.
– eyebrow brush + eyebrow wax
Smooths eyebrows and keeps them in shape.
– mascara
Light brushing on the tips to elongate the lashes.
– bronzer + luminous blush
Just on the cheeks to brighten my face and add a glow.

Hair Tip – Switch to sulfate-free products.
Best decision ever. My hair never feels stripped after shampooing. Additionally, the line of conditioners, daily conditioners, and daily oils I use are based on oils that my hair loves.

I can put my make up on in 5 minutes for daytime. I take longer when going out. And I put on my whole face.

  1. Tinted moisturizer
  2. Undereye cream
  3. Brush brows and use clear mascara on brows and eyelashes
  4. Eyeshadow base then 3 shades of eyeshadow and blending
  5. eye liner, curl eyelashes, mascara 6 Cream blush
  6. Line lips, lipstick, and gloss
  7. touch of powder on nose and forehead
  8. Wa - la! Year of practice in 5 minutes.

My hair is another story…that takes WAY too much time.

5 minutes or less here, too.

  1. RoC day moisturizer with built-in sunscreen (alternatively, Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer)
  2. Laura Mercier eye pencil underneath eyes
  3. Laura Mercier Bonne Mine palette

Just swipe the colors where I want that day - on eyelids, cheeks, and/or lips. I stockpile these palettes and love them.
  4. Laura Mercier lip gloss

Mascara for special occasions. My skin is too dry for me to use powders successfully, though I did for years when I had oily skin.

Since I travel a lot, my travel bag is very pared down - I bring a Nars Multiple that I can swipe on eyelids, cheeks, and/or lips and then the eye pencil and then I’m done.

No makeup (maybe twice per year).

But I’m interested in trying Baby Foot (on my feet!) - has anyone used it?

Pizzagirl wrote about her sunscreen routine in the Caitlyn thread. I’m moving the discussion here, because we were getting way off topic there.

Thanks. As a bike commuter, a typical day involves being out riding in the sun for an hour and a half just when I’m doing normal going about for the day. More, of course, when I’m going for a ride. So I should use the concentrated sun exposure routine every day. I’m reluctant to try a new sunscreen because I once had a horrible allergic reaction to a sunscreen, and I’m always afraid I’ll get it again if I try something new. But I kind of hate the sunscreen I use now: Coppertone Sport. I like the moisturizing, especially on my legs, plus it seems to screen sun and stay on pretty well with sweating, but the stuff is so greasy and it gets all over everything.

I’ll check out these brands. In the past, I haven’t liked Neutrogena because it behaved badly when I applied the second coat later in the day.

Cosigned on @Niquii77 's suggestion of sulfate free. My curly hair is so much more manageable now that I don’t use sulfates or silicones. Shea Moisture and coconut oil are all I need for cleansing and styling.

Note, if you do go sulfate free, you should also go silicone free as the sulfate free cleaners/conditioners aren’t good at getting cones out of your hair as they aren’t water soluble.
