Care to chance a dreamer?

Okay, so I’m only a sophomore, but I’d really like to see what people’s opinions are about my chances at some of my top schools. This is more to see if I should go forth on my college search more realistically or strive for the same set of schools. And if anybody has any advice on what I should be doing to prepare for college as a sophomore, that would be great. Thanks! (And if you have any schools to recommend, please do!)

Top Schools (+ reasons):
U Chicago (Top choice, I like their International Studies program, Chi-town, & Hogwartian architecture )
Northwestern U (I’d probably double-major in communications & pol sci)
Brown U (I fell in love with this school through A Hope in the Unseen)
U Notre Dame (Best Catholic school)
Brandeis U (My history teacher went there and he’s a smart/scary dude)
New York U (Stern school is pretty awesome, love the artsy feel of NY)

HS School Type: Medium-sized Low-ranked Suburban Public
Location: PA
Race/Gender: Asian Female
Prospective Majors: Marketing / Political Science / Global Studies (in other words, undecided)
UW GPA: 4.00
Rank: Counselor won’t divulge this info quite yet, but I’m pretty sure I’m at least top 10%, most likely top 5%. Grades are always posted in public places and I’m top in most of my classes.

7th Grade SAT Scores
(thru JHU Center for Talented Youth)
Critical Reading: 550
Math: 520
Writing: 490
Total: 1560
PSAT Scores:
(See an upward trend maybe?)
CR: 61
M: 65
W: 59
Total: 185
I’m definitely working on improving these scores. I’m aiming for maybe at least a 2200 on my SATs.

AP Courses/Exams:
Sophomore:
European History
Junior:
English Language
U.S. History
Senior:
English Literature
U.S. Government & Politics
Comp Government & Politics
Calculus AB
Physics C
French Language (Self-study)
Statistics
(my course of study would be ‘Most demanding’ at my school)

Extra-curricular activities:
School Newspaper (9, 10, most likely 11, maybe one of the editors by 12)
Invisible Children Club a chapter of IC Inc.'s Schools 4 Schools Program
Published in school literary magazine (10, most likely 11, 12)
DECA a competitive marketing association
French club (10, 11 & 12)
National Honor Society (10, 11, 12)
HOBY Ambassador leadership program

Future ECs (Can’t afford to do much since my family is lower middle class with 3 kids and got hit pretty hard by recession [aka unemployed parent]):
La Soci

Come back after first semester of junior year skippy.

so fare you have a very good record, try to get some leadership in your extra-curricular junior and senior year, you probably should try to specify your major and perhaps take some of those classes in high school.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/861721-chance-please.html

So far, you seem like a good candidate. Colleges don’t look at your PSAT score unless you’re a national merit scholar, so make sure you do exceptional on your SATs. It’s hard to chance you without an actual SAT score, but I’ll just assume you get a 2050 (idk if you realize that a 2200 is VERY difficult to attain lol).

U Chicago- match
Northwestern U- reach
Brown U- high reach
U Notre Dame- reach
Brandeis U- in
New York U- reach (stern is the most competitive NYU school, but it seems like you want to major in poly science, so idk why you would want to go to stern, which is a business school?)

^^^^ You are confused. Stop giving people college advice if you’re ignorant of the admissions landscape. Chicago has significantly higher SATs than all of those universities and has a significantly lower acceptance rate than all but Brown.

If you get a 2200 on SATs, then:

Chicago - Reach
Northwestern - Low Reach
Brown - Reach
Notre Dame - High Match/Low Reach
Brandeis - In
NYU - High Match/Low Reach

Okay, thanks guys. I know 2200 is pretty hard to get on the SAT, but I think I could do it if I try a little harder and study more for it.
Oh and Stern is on there if I want to go into Marketing. Being in DECA and all, I think that would help my chances at Stern somewhat. I’m also interested in NYU’s school for Arts & Sciences.

bumpity bump bump…

Chicago - Low Reach
Northwestern - Low Reach
Brown - Reach
Notre Dame - High Match-Low Reach
Brandeis - In
NYU - High Match-Low Reach

Good luck!
