Career Fairs at CSM

Curious to know what the draw is like for engineering employers at Mines’ career fairs. Is the fair large (say >250 companies) and draws national employers? Or more regional / focused on oil companies and mining?

Different days for different majors. Reach out to the career center and ask for a list of attendees.

But don’t assume you will find a job based on a career fair or school itself. Some do - but not many overall.

As an example since they show the how, 88 of 3820 students at Cornell found a job through the career fair. For engineering, 27 of 596.

The #1, 2, 3 ways for both the school and engineering

  1. Internet job listing (both my kids found their jobs this way)
  2. Social media - LinkedIn, Facebook
  3. Handshake - internal job listings

Career fairs can be great and you can meet people and learn about companies and roles but I would personally not choose a school based on who attends. It’s unlikely, but not impossible, that this is how you find employment.

Good luck.

Looks like these events are well attended by corporations from across the nation, the placement office incorporates interview preparation training and both the “in house” opportunities and eventual career results are impressive.

My Global bank (40+ countries) recruits on campus specifically for candidates who can join our metals and mining teams and commodity finance teams. I can ask our recruiter for peer institutions that attend but my sense is these events are well attended.

The answer to your question is that CSM has two career fairs over two days each Fall and Spring with over 300 companies (both Regional and National) in attendance. My daughter has landed multiple internship offers both after her sophomore year and her Junior year. She indicated that more than 2/3 of her friends and fellow students landed internships and/or full time employment from the Career fairs.
