So I know SJSU is at the heart of Silicon Valley and there are many job offers for engineers and techies. I don’t fall into either of those majors, I might want to be a wedding planner, or some sort of designer. Are there still a lot of job opportunities for me at Silicon Valley? As in still pay well?
It honestly depends on the major. What is crazy about SJSU is that it’s diverse in a lot of ways, including that departments range from appalling to outstanding. You definitely should check out the department site.
But we have a really strong job output, especially in the San Francisco Bay area. You should check the LinkedIn school profile as well.
Being a wedding planner or designer generally isn’t going to be the highest paying job no matter what, so what exactly does “pay well” mean to you?
a biz or Project Management degree would suit the wedding planner objective well. Millions of people live nearby so, you can rest assured, there will be weddings to plan year in and year out. Whether you’ll be able to earn enough to afford to live in the area will, largely, depend on you.
Well pay well as in $70k per year, I know that’s asking for a lot but that’s just my goal, at least I should be making at least that amount to save enough to buy a house in the Bay Area. Since I’ve lived in San Francisco all my life, might as well buy one in the Bay Area. Right now I’m living in a old apartment with my parents.
I will definitely look into project management, I’ve never heard of that before but I will really do my research now, thank you that was helpful !
@NCalRent I feel like I’ve only seen project management as a minor or a graduate degree. Have you seen full BBA/BSBAs in it?
Check out the majors in Hospitality and Event Management - http://www.sjsu.edu/hspm/
The other majors that will certainly lead you to wedding and event planning would be something in the Public Relations arena - http://www.jmc.sjsu.edu/undergraduate_program/public_relations/
If you were open to leaving the Bay Area, Cal Poly Pomona has the CSU systems best overall Hospitality majors.
Chico has a very reputable one. It is an option under Biz - i bet other CSUs couch it there as well.
