Even if it is need-blind, it can be pretty obvious the general socioecs of applicants through ECs, schools, essays, zip codes, if the applicant has to work to support one’s family, etc. </p>
<p>When a school is need-blind, a low socioec won’t HURT the applicant in the admissions process because of inability to pay. Need-blind schools can actively recruit people in lower socioeconomic environments because they aren’t pressured to reject them just for their inability to pay.</p>
