what would be my chances with the proposed ACT score and where i stand write now with the SAT score

Currently, I think you are a good candidate. It would appear that your grades, rank, academic rigor would balance the SAT scores (your SAT 2s are fine). With the ACT scores you project, you would be a strong candidate.

Carleton values passion for learning in its students; I think you can easily demonstrate that.

Good luck!

I can assure you that test scores are not the be-all and end-all at Carleton. And even more importantly, your test scores really are nothing to be ashamed of. They won’t stand out, but you have lots of other great attributes that are going to get you noticed. Good luck, Carleton is wonderful!

I think that excuse for the SATs is rather lame. Take it again and skip the excuses.

Maybe kollegkid, but you have to realize boyhood is a URM as well. Her SAT scores are absolutely fine. Sure, it wouldn’t hurt to take them again, but I might go so far as to say she is a shoe-in for Carleton, and most of the schools she might apply to.

^^I would NOT go so far. The OP is a competitive applicant and very well may be admitted eventually to Carleton and other similarly and/or more selective schools, but “shoo-in” is too strong of a word for almost any school that accepts a mere 30% of their applicants (not even that many at Carleton).

Salutatorian African-American girl with strong EC’s who, at worst, will submit an 1860 SAT? I do think it’s unwise to get anyones hopes really high in the college process, as it can be very competitive… but…she will do exceptionally well in the college process, though of course not an auto-admit everywhere.

You got a 219 on the PSAT. Why wouldn’t you be able to get a 2200ish score if you took the SAT again (sans family emergency)?

I know that if i take the SAT again… I’ll remember why I am taking it and what hapened the last time and I am sure I wont do well because I wont be able to concentrate…

and thats my lame excuse…

Boyhood–You have so much going for you, I wouldn’t worry too much about SAT scores. I’m sure you’ll bring them up, but even if you don’t, the ones you have are certainly not disgraceful. Also, definitely take the ACT. My older daughter took both tests and scored a 32 on the ACT. Her SAT was identical to yours. (My younger daughter is one of those cold-blooded test-takers–she scored 35/2290, which makes me wonder if we took the wrong baby home from the hospital 17 years ago! She’ll be a freshman at Carleton in the fall.) What other schools are you considering? Best of luck, wherever you go!
