Carnegie Mellon and University of Pittsburgh Classes?

Hello,

I am an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh. I was wondering if any such program existed where students from Pitt could take Computer Science and Biology classes from Carnegie Mellon? I heard of several people doing such a thing, especially in their junior and senior years, but am not quite sure how it’s done.

I know someone that took a class or two at Pitt, but it was only due to a scheduling conflict at CMU. I’m not sure if you’re allowed to take any class you want or if there’s certain requirements that have to be met such as the class is only offered at one school or the other.

I know my S had to get approval to take a UPitt/Pittsburgh Filmmakers course. I believe the Pittsburgh colleges have agreements for coursed not offered at your college.

What I’ve been told is that you can cross-register for CMU courses-- call the school to learn more about the paperwork involved-- and then can be considered a registered non-student. You will get last priority in registering for any course, after freshmen, but will be allowed to take them.
