That’s a good point. But even the whole thing about releasing at 5pm yesterday wasn’t explicitly announced. I only knew about the 5pm release time by going on here where you receive “unofficial” info. I wish that they provided more “official” information so that people wouldn’t need to search through comments in CC, reddit or Instagram. At least they sent us an email about the March 15th release date.
But even the whole thing about releasing at 5pm yesterday wasn’t explicitly announced.
We received an email on March 12 that said:
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to consider your Fall 2024 Regular Decision application to Carnegie Mellon University.
Admission decisions will begin releasing Friday, March 15. Check out this fun video our current students helped prepare for the announcement. You’ll be able to view your decision letter on your Where Am I in the Process? portal when it becomes available.
Clicking on the video link leads to Youtube where they said the part about decisions starting March 15 and rolling out through March. I do think they’ve been good about setting expectations. I hate the rolling thing but they have been fairly clear about their plan to do it so I can’t fault them there.
I wonder if they are doing something similar to Virginia Tech. Admitting people earlier than expected and started with the most competitive candidates. From what I see, most of the people who haven’t heard anything are competitive, but not tippy top.
Both droids were Accepted but only one to the majors they applied to - the that applied CS was accepted into Engineering.
Anyone know the reality on the ground at CMU? Is transferring into CS a technical possibility but practically not really possible? If not possible, can they Minor? Is enrolling in classes challenging/impossible if not a Major?
My S24 school kids who got into CMU also got into top 20 school and UC’s . It is interesting
Vocal Performance.
Good luck to you and others who are awaiting their CMU decisions!
DS24 was accepted to CS last night.
Congratulations to those who got in and good luck to those waiting.
My son is cs (Dietrich) and hasn’t heard either.
Currently waiting on my decision. Im applying for Civil Engineering and I submitted last day or two of the deadline. I don’t understand why it’s rolling because NEU released tens of thousands of decisions at once on Wednesday with no issue so I don’t see any logic. This is my top school so I am extremely nervous right now and hoping it comes out soon.
My fellow ED1 and ED2 deferred applicants, did you get your decision back? My theory is that we may be in a separate pile, and that’s why we haven’t received it yet.
At least one deferred student received their decision. There really doesn’t seem to be any discernible logic.
i actually did a summer program at Carnegie. when i asked the professor about double majoring he talked about how the process is similar to transferring majors. every school has requirements but for the school of computer science you have to have a 3.7+ gpa to apply to transfer . its definetly possible with hard work but it isn’t unheard of. Alot of students “transfer” to double major!!! so its more common than you would think
Exactly top notch engineering college has issues releasing 10,000 decisions on the website is a issue I am totally surprised lol
How did CMU release decisions in the past years any stats around it ?
This feels like they are doing by some level of GPA and high stat kids first and then so on ? Some schools did that for my DD24 this last 12 schools she got in.
The decisions will continue rolling out from Monday through the next few weeks…says their Instagram story.
As per reddit, they have an instagram story that says “Admission decisions for Fall 2024 domestic and international undergraduate applicants will continue delivery Monday and over the next days and weeks, Applicants will receive a decision email regardless of their status.”
I would rule out mass email or any portal technical glitch. It is world top notch CS School. Can’t get their portal right? Then forget about teaching solutions to world problems…
Overall approach based on instagram posts and pre-decision emails suggest a well planned release based on statistics of prior years enrollment data. They knew about which batches will be released and hence gave a timeline till end of March.
For parents and students, just the lack of visibility into this plan is causing lot of anxiety. This anxiety is most likely CMU team did not take into account … and should be addressed.
This is stressful and cringe. I guess you could call them Cringey Mellon University… ba dum tss!
I really doubt it’s by GPA/stats since they also handed out a lot of rejections already. I haven’t seen anyone majoring in bio/chem/phys receive a decision yet, so it might be by major.
The said decisions would be rolling out over the coming days and weeks. Where is the “lack of visibility” with this plan?
Has anyone been able to schedule an admit day visit? It was available yesterday but not today.
